My sweet baby,
I'm writing this because I fear the worst is about to happen, and I need you to know that it's not your fault. You are growing steadily in my belly, and it's the strangest and most beautiful feeling ever. Marcel and I sing to you and tell you stories and you kick and wiggle around. It's the highlight of my day. I imagine what you will look like, whether you are a boy or girl, and what it will be like to hold you close to me when you are born.
But I'm only fifteen, just a child. Your father, too. He lives in France and comes to visit when he can, but it's just not practical. Nothing about this is practical, and I'm scared. I'm so scared of what it might mean. Two children raising a baby... what if we fail? Our decision is not made, and I know it will not be an easy one whatever we decide. But please know, my darling, you are loved. Your fingers press against my skin as I write this, and when I touch them they stay there, as if you are enjoying the moment as much as I am.
I long to keep you here for as long as possible, to hold you for every last second that I can. No matter what happens, I will keep you close, dream of you, and love you for as long as I live.
Your Mummy x

PERSONALITY Boggart: River's worst fear has changed recently, and she now fears anything happening to her unborn baby, which is probably the strongest and most common fear for an expectant mother. Before this, her worst fear was probably her own mortality. Treating injured people every day for her job, she is made aware every second of how easily breakable humans are, and it scares her more than she is willing to admit. Mirror of Erised: River wants to train as a Healer and be able to help people more than she currently does, and now that she is pregnant she is unbelievably excited to have a perfect little family of her own, and isn't far off living her lovely little dream. Patronus: Chinchilla - River's happiest memory was the day she met her husband, Bert. She remembers his charming smile, and the way he had looked at her as if he had seen the sun for the first time. It was an incredible feeling, and one she will never forget.
River is an outgoing, fun-loving girl and always has been. Sunny and clever, she wears her heart on her sleeve and is open and honest as a rule. She doesn't like to beat around the bush, and makes sure she's straight with people even if the situation is an awkward one. She's not easily embarrassed, so it's hard to find a subject she won't talk to you about, and she's quite the chatterbox when you get her started, she can talk the leg off just about anyone. She can be tactless at times, and a tad impulsive. Okay, very impulsive, and River always, always follows her heart, even if what she's doing doesn't always make sense, as long as it feels right, she'll jump in with both feet. She's definitely a feeler, not a thinker.
River is one of the most kind and caring people on the planet, and she will literally give someone her last knut and go without if she thinks they need it. She's very selfless and very generous, which sometimes lands her in a pickle when she goes shopping and gives her money to a homeless person, having to go home with no dinner and tell her husband that he needs to go back out to buy the food she couldn't. She's lovable enough to get away with that. Or so she thinks. She's quite girly, and loves the finer things in life, though she and her husband are nowhere near in the kind of financial position to fund that love, so she makes do with saving up and treating herself every other month. See, she can be sensible!
She loves her family more than anything, and prioritizes her parents and brother above all else. Her husband doesn't have any family, so she makes sure hers fill the gap for him, maybe being a bit too pushy about it, but it's all coming from a place of love. River enjoys helping people and her job as a Mediwitch means she gets to do that while attending major Quidditch matches and other fun wizarding events. Perks of the job! (Along with getting to ogle the hot Quidditch players in the locker rooms). Her autograph book is bursting. HISTORY Mother: Genevieve Blackthorne, 46 years old, Madam Malkin's seamstress, deceased Father: Henry Blackthorne, 47 years old, Magical gardener, deceased Siblings: Dorian Humbert, 31 years old, Ravenclaw Alumni, Auror Julian Blackthorne, 24 years old, Slytherin Alumni, Werewolf Partners: Filbert (Bert) Pipp, 26 years old, Gryffindor Alumni, Wizarding Wireless Network Radio presenter, deceased Others: Ariel Genevieve Blackthorne-Humbert, baby daughter she never got to meet. <3
On 12th July 1955, River was born to loving Pueblood parents, Gen and Henry Blackthorne. The couple already had a two year old son, Julian, and their daughter made their family complete. Both children had blonde hair and blue eyes, and though Julian had a naughty streak, River was like a pretty little cherub, always smiling and laughing, and forever curious. She learned to talk early, and would babble at her parents and big brother relentlessly all day every day, her favourite word quickly becoming "why?" before she was even two. She showed signs of magic when she reached six years old, when she literally started chatting bubbles, which she thought was hilarious. Julian encouraged her, thinking it was funny when she started to cough and choke. He panicked when she turned purple and ran to tell their parents, and she was rushed to St. Mungo's for treatment.
It was at St. Mungo's when she was six years old that she found herself in awe of the Healers there, and decided that their job was so wonderful, making sick people better. What a lovely job! She told herself that when she was older, she wanted to be like them, to help people, to fix people, to make people smile again when they were falling to pieces. As dreamy as she made a rather gruesome job sound in her own head, she stuck to it, and when it came time to go to Hogwarts, she kept the goal in her head when doing her schoolwork, and was sorted into Hufflepuff for her caring nature. School was easy for River, she was quite popular, and she had her brother there, though he was becoming more and more troublesome and rebellious as he got older. He still looked out for her, in his own devil may care style. She did well in lessons and graduated with all of the grades necessary to go into Healer training.
Her final year in school was plagued with a bit of family drama, Julian was bitten by a werewolf and sucked into a world of darkness. River was shattered as, even though he hadn't died, she felt like she'd lost a brother. Though he went AWOL for a long time with a pack of Werewolves that were on the wrong side of bad, the bond she had had with Julian had been strong enough that he came back to her every now and then, River relieved to see him every time and trying to convince him to turn his life around. Sometimes he would say he wanted to, and build her hopes up, but it only ever lasted a few weeks, then the call of that dark world would drag him back in and he'd disappear again. She holds on to that hope, and loves her brother blindly through all of his darkness, though a part of her senses he will never break free of that world.
After leaving school, she trained at St.Mungo's to be a Mediwitch, thinking it was the first step on the ladder to being a fully fledged Healer, and she passed her training without any hitches, still living with her parents in London to make life easier for her. Her first day on the job as a qualified Mediwitch changed her life forever. It was a music festival, and she was to be on duty in the Medihut in case of any injuries over the weekend. It also meant that she got to watch all of the bands and performers for free and she found herself at the WWN radio booth on one of her breaks, a handsome presenter Bert Pipp, signing off for the day. He approached her, looking as though he had seen an angel, and River was instantly hooked. With beautiful chocolate eyes and hair to match, he was tall and dashing, and seemed genuinely charming, not like those guys who just wanted to get in your knickers. He was actually lovely.
He asked her out, and River didn't hesitate to say yes, their first date being one of her favourite memories, since it was the next night at the festival, and Bert sneaked her backstage to meet some of the acts, the start of River's enormous autograph book. Bert proposed a few months later, and they married after only six months together, River not caring at all that people thought she was nuts. She loved him, and she knew in her gut that it was right, it didn't matter if she was only young, the heart didn't lie. She didn't, however, take his name, the thought of being a Pipp was far too embarrassing for River to deal with, so she kept her maiden name, which Bert, the legend that he was, was fine with. They got their own little house in London, not far from her parents - Bert's parents had died five years ago, and he was an only child, so he had no reason to want to take River away from her family - and River got Bert a little Spaniel puppy for their first Christmas together in their new house.
Almost two years later, just last Christmas, River discovered she was pregnant with their first child. Her parents were ecstatic to be grandparents for the first time, and the news was a blessing for the family at a time when Henry was rather ill. He had been tending a Pureblood garden and been bitten by a rather nasty gnome. The creature took the tip of his finger clean off, and though he had been treated at St. Mungo's, they told him it was badly infected, and sent him away with some special magical cream to treat the wound at home. A month after River found out she was pregnant, her father dies of blood poisoning, casting a harsh haze over the happy bubble they had been in. River was devastated, and though she was meant to be keeping her stress levels low, she tried her best to be a crutch for her heartbroken mother.
In May of 1978, when the family thought things were tough enough, River's mum was killed in a horrendous Death Eater attack. She had been shopping in the small village of Hogsmeade, and unfortunately didn't get out alive when the battle broke out. Genevieve was found buried under a pile of bricks, one shoe missing, her wand still in her hand, and it gave River a small jolt of comfort that her mum went out fighting for her life. She was completely broken at the double loss of her parents over the space of a few months, but she tried her hardest to stay positive for the sake of her unborn baby, who was the only thing that mattered in this world to her.
She hoped to train to be a full Healer once the baby was born, as she thought it would be wonderful to be able to set such a good example to her children. Adding to that, her pregnancy and the loss of her parents had fueled a desire in her to try and fix her family. She knew she had a half brother out there, her mother told her all about it once she had left school, though she knew nothing about him other than the orphanage he was left at as a child. River wanted very much to find him, and to give her child a full family (since her husband can't offer any at all). Call it hormonal sentimentality, but she couldn't fight the urge, and had already spent months looking for him.
Not long after the loss of her mother, she struck gold, and was sent an anonymous tip, a note with her brother's name. Dorian Humbert. She sought him out immediately, visiting him at work to bluntly state who he was and force herself into his world. He turned out to be a wonderful man, and she formed quite the bond with him over the last few months of her pregnancy, spending as much time as she could with the brother she had never known, and enjoying visits with Julian whenever he could manage. In August 1978, River attended a carnival with her Bert and Dorian, even though she was due to have her baby any day, she didn't want to miss the fun, and so her husband and brother kept by her side, though neither expected Death Eaters to swarm the place. After fighting as hard as she could, River was hit by a curse that sent pain coursing through her body, doing a lot of internal damage. Bert tried to help her, but was cut down with a killing curse, River horrified and raging, throwing hexes in every direction as she sobbed for her husband. Dorian appeared at her side and apparated them all to St. Mungo's, but despite the best efforts of the healers and staff, River passed away in her sleep, her baby, Ariel, being born immediately and left in the care of her Uncle Dorian.
