Aelis Zella Clovellington, the pride and joy of Margot and Edwin Clovellington. She was their first child and an absolute beauty to behold. She was the perfect baby, she was an absolute angel and they were so impossibly in love. But she wasn't a boy. Edwin didn't care, he would be happy no matter what, but Margot had it in her mind that it was her duty to provide her husband with two sons. Despite the fact that she was from an incredibly wealthy European family, far more influential than Edwin's, she still insisted on trying again. Three years later they had Benedict, and even he wasn't enough, she tried again and again and again to have another son. Eventually their 13th child was the second son that Margot had wanted for her husband, for their family line, and she was done, and just as well because his birth had almost killed her. If it weren't for the fast works of the healers, she would have been gone.
Aelis didn't mind sharing her parents. She quite liked the constant flow of babies that came into her life. They were still a close family, even though they were large, and she was happy to help care for them all. She was happy to help out wherever she was needed, even if it meant putting aside her own desires. She was sad to leave her family and go to Hogwarts, she was the first of her siblings to go but she settled so incredibly well and it was actually kind of nice not having to look after babies and toddlers all the time. She loved her sisters, and Ben, but she was able to focus completely on herself at Hogwarts.
Naturally Aelis was a Hufflepuff. She was sorted quickly but the sorting hat and fit right in to the house of the badger. She had plenty of friends from life before Hogwarts and made new ones right off the bat. Hogwarts was a much quieter environment than what she was used to and she was able to study and read in peace. Hogwarts was like a peaceful oasis. Or at least it was most of the time. There were still dramas still the occasional fight that occurred, but on the whole it was a heck of a lot more mature. She could handle the food fights that occasionally broke out and over the following years it was nice to even have a couple of her siblings at Hogwarts too, both Ben
There wasn't a single subject that Aelis took that she wasn't good at. She gave her subjects her all, even History of Magic until she was able to drop it, and then she had to decide on a career. What the heck was she going to do when she left Hogwarts? She didn't have a drive towards anything in particular but she wanted to help people. Upon graduation she became a patron of a charity and then another, sitting on their boards and deciding how the money donated would be best distributed. She hosted gala's and events and her charitable works became a full time occupation.
Three years after graduating, Aelis fell in love with a man named Archibald Cornish. Archibald was older than her by fifteen years, but he was funny, sweet, and romantic. He didn't treat her like a child but a woman and Aelis could see her life with him. She wanted children, with him and a grand marriage. On her 22nd birthday, Archibald proposed. Aelis was over the moon and accepted his proposal, beginning her wedding preparations that very night.
Months went by and between her charity work and planning her wedding, Aelis was flat out. Little did she know that her parents looked into Archibald and found that he was actually a married man named Archibald Slugsworth, with three children he rarely saw. He would tell his wife that he was away on business when in actuality he was spending his time with Aelis. She was heartbroken and humiliated, but more than that she was ashamed. Archibald had taken the money his family had needed and spent it on her, he had spoiled her with gifts and riches while his impoverished family were none the wiser. Aelis was at a loss, she had no idea what it was she needed to do to make things right but she had to do something. Without thinking she packed a large box with all sorts of items that she thought could help the family. She piled bags of gold inside and gifted it to the family anonymously with a note explaining as much as she possibly could while still remaining unknown. It was delivered to Mrs Slugsworth while Archibald was with Aelis, treating her to an exceedingly expensive meal in the middle of London at one of the most high end restaurants. Diamond chandeliers hung from the ceiling casting a soft glow around the room, a live band played gentle, romantic music in the corner, and every table had candle light. Aelis kept up the ruse that everything was fine and dandy, hiding her broken and angry heart until a waiter approached her with news there was someone that needed to speak to her. Aelis waved her associate over and he stood there at the table, all 6'7" of his muscular frame feeling as though it were filling the entire room. He uttered a few words to Aelis, she smiled, thanked him, and he left the pair alone, making his way to the front of the restaurant, standing to the side, looking like security. Once their mains were finished the desert menu arrived. While looking over it Aelis made light conversation, general chatter by asking Archibald how his wife was. Archibald laughed it off, acting as though she was being playful, but she insisted that she knew what he was up to. Archibald insisted that everything she had been told was a lie, but Aelis trusted her family more than anyone, even Archibald, so she stood her ground. He broke upon seeing the determination in her eyes and the broken trust. He snarled a few hurtful names at her before he tried to flee. Her associate caught him at the door and had a few quiet words with him, patting him on the shoulder and sending him on his way. With men stationed near the Slugworth family home, Aelis waited for news of his return, but nothing came. Weeks then months went by and nothing. Archibald was gone, even from his family's life and Aelis was relieved.
After her broken heart Aelis never loved again, she never even tried. She's become distrustful of love and has built a wall around her heart to shield her from further humiliation, although the humiliation was the least of her problems, she has nightmares of starving those poor children, of hurting the wife. Aelis is her own worst enemy some days, beating herself up over something she knows she had no control over, but she blames herself for being too trusting, for allowing her kind nature to not only get herself taken advantage of, but a whole family that had clearly been struggling to survive. The humiliation she can deal with, but the gnawing sense of shame damages her soul.
Aelis has taken on so many charities that people wonder how she does it, her family have told her that she needs to take it easy, but Aelis tells them she can handle it, and her crippling sense of shame drives her to do whatever she can to try and make up for what she's done, but there's nothing that will ever clean her soul, she knows that and she knows that she must live with this feeling for the rest of her life, always trying to make up for it.
