Eugene Bell was the third and last son for Flora and Gaston Bell and their fourth, but certainly not last, child. Growing up as a middle child would probably have been tricky enough. There was always so much going on and Eugene never really got to see his older brother, Eric, except when he was home on school holidays from Hogwarts. He has little to no memories of his eldest brother, but has plenty of his other siblings and his parents.
Growing up Eugene never realised he was different to the rest of his family. He just played and enjoyed being a kid. He was rarely in trouble but would often get distracted looking at the bugs on the ground or noticing the first blossoms on the trees. He was observant and curious as a child and that never left him. Eugene was always looking for things to study. It was clear from early on that Eugene would be a Ravenclaw when he got to school and his love of learning was nurtured by his parents.
When Eugene got to Hogwarts he was sorted into Ravenclaw which was no surprise to anyone that had ever met him. He was obsessive over magic in general, all his lessons were new to him and he spent the first half of the year in the common room and the library during his spare time. He'd read well ahead into the second and third year magics and found himself finding fascination in Astronomy. He got hooked on the stars which proved very useful from his fourth year on when girls wanted to snog his face off. For some reason they liked to stargaze with him, something Eugene preferred to do alone so he could focus, but he'd tell them to stories of the constellation and they'd really enjoy themselves.
School wasn't all snogging and roses. He'd been teased for his appearance, his name, for not belonging in his family. He got teased for his obsessions and for being smart. If there was something to tease him for, someone would. He wasn't very confrontational but did dislike criticism on his hard work. He went through a small phase of feeling like he didn't belong in his family. They were all so blonde and there he was, chocolate brown eyes and dark brown hair. He didn't look as though he fit but he found comfort in his little dimpled chin that most members of his family had.
During his seventh year people were surprised to find that Eugene had "settled down". No one had expected him to have a girlfriend for longer than a month, but he and Fiona had been dating for six months at graduation. After graduating the pair found out they were around two months pregnant and they talked all day and all night about what to do. They made a plan and they stuck to it.
Together they told their parents. There was shock but his parents were supportive. Fiona's parents on the other hand were not. They shouted and threatened to disown her. Eugene promised Fiona that he would find a way to support her, they could move in with his parents while he studied to become a Healer and then find their own place where they could be a family. She agreed.
The news came that they were expecting twins and Eugene felt overwhelmed. He barely saw Fiona leading up to their wedding as he spent most of his time at the hospital, studying. He didn't mind too much about helping people, it was a nice little perk, what he was more interested in was studying the human body, looking at how it all ticked on, day in and day out.
Fiona stuck around and together they were married. They had a small wedding with family only and his parents treated them to a long weekend away in the country for a honeymoon. It was pretty incredible and the newly wedded couple got to bond properly.
November came and Eugene was still working hard. The boys came on his birthday and they were without a doubt the most perfect present he could ever imagine. They were perfection but Eugene had no idea how he and Fiona were going to raise them. He was an intern and she didn't have a job. Thankfully her parents decided to become more involved and were smitten with the boys. It was awkward at first but Fiona started spending more and more time with her parents and Eugene didn't even notice that she'd moved out in the New Year. They worked out a schedule and Fiona was good about letting him spend as much time with the boys as possible.
Eugene was deep into his studies of the human body and healing. He saw his boys every day for bedtime and spent weekends with them. He dealt mostly with Fiona's parents who didn't like him very much but he was always on his best behaviour with them, despite disliking them intensely.
Eventually Eugene became a Healer but it was less than a year before he moved to the morgue, becoming a coroner, exploring the bodies of deceased patients that died of unknown causes. It was fascinating for Eugene and took another year of study.
Just before the boy's second birthday and Eugene's 21st, he found himself a little apartment, moving out of his parents home. He still got to see his boys and spent their joint birthday's with them. He came to realise that for their entire birthday he'd not seen Fiona and he knew that something was up. He spoke with a mutual friend that told him she was seeing another guy from another country. She was overseas, visiting his parents and had been for the last two months. Eugene was furious. She'd just left their kids to spend time with some other man and more than that, she'd not let him have the boys. His own children.
Fiona came back as soon as she heard Eugene was demanding to have his own children. He'd tried for a week and her parents stopped him from seeing the boys altogether. Fiona called him "irrational" and accused him of being "preposterous". She let him see the boys again but she was always present. At least for five months. They went back to their old routine where it was him, her frosty parents and the boys. He got word that Fiona was getting married and moving, only it wasn't a change of house, it was a change of country. Eugene wasn't having it. Not one bit. He told Fiona she wasn't taking the boys and so she and her fiance moved to England where they got married. When they were on their honeymoon Fiona left the boys with Eugene and it was the best three weeks of his life. Well one of the best moments of his life. Unfortunately things went south when Fiona failed to return from her honeymoon. She sent over paperwork and spoke with her parents but never with Eugene. She'd given him complete custody and wasn't moving back to the UK. Eugene couldn't believe it. She was just giving up on their children. It took a couple of months but Eugene moved again, moving closer to his parents so they could help out with looking after the boys when he was working.
Eugene enjoyed work and fell in and out of the beds of various women when his family would babysit the boys. He never stayed the night, always returning home, but he made sure that between work, being a single father and having a rather obsessive personality, that he had time for the carnal side of life. He spent as much time with his boys as he could and enjoyed work, which some might find weird considering he was a coroner.
The night after his 23rd birthday he celebrated with a trip to Vegas with a few friends. His boys were excited to spend a few days with his parents. Things didn't quite go to plan in Vegas, winning a lot of money certainly went to plan, but meeting an incredible woman wasn't. Eugene fell hard for Chel. She lived in Wales and the had a fast relationship. She met his boys and they were engaged within a year. They married within three months in January 1980, and the boys were incredible in their little suits! The newly married couple honeymooned away in France and when they got back Eugene found Chel in bed with her cousin and there was nothing innocent about it like she tried to claim. Eugene got rid of her as fast as he could, not willing to work on a relationship where his wife was cheating on him with her own cousin. That is just way too messed up, even for a guy that enjoys being a coroner.
