 Stay out, and we'll live forever now "I don't know," Leo shrugged. "Girls have their charm." He wasn't so stuck up as to think it was a disaster if he ended up with no sons. His parents might have something to say about it, but honestly, Kara had seen to it that the Zabini family name would be carried on with Blaise, the pressure had been completely removed as far as Leo was concerned. Not that he was having kids any time soon. He'd need to settle down for that, and honestly, with how fussy he was, it was getting less and less likely that he would ever find a wife. "Rose is pretty. Maybe a flower theme, there are tons of options there." He moved to the window and cracked it open when Dora mentioned feeling hot. There was a gentle breeze, and he flicked his wand, sending it in her direction to cool her a bit. "Rose, Heather, Poppy, Lily, Pansy."
The door opened and the matron peered into the room. Leo was ushered out within minutes, but not before telling Dora that she could call for him if she needed anything after the baby was born. Stay out, and we'll live forever now A heavily pregnant young woman ran up to them as Leo fussed over Jasper, who refused all help and insisted that he wanted to leave. Leo was disappointed. He was more than disappointed, he felt like he had let his friend down somehow. Today was not supposed to go like this, and if he had a time turner, he would rewind the last twenty minutes or so and make things go right for Jasper. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about his friends bruised ego, and so he let Jasper go, patting him gently on the back and telling him to take it easy. He chewed on his lip as he watched his friend head out the door, then remembered that he wasn't alone. The pregnant woman. Right. He turned back to her, smile in place once again. "Hey, sorry," he stuck a hand out automatically, without even realising that her own hands were too full to shake. "You're here with Lola, right? I'm Leo." 'And I would have been hitting on you right now if you weren't so blatantly knocked up.' She was cute. He kept his hand on her back as he felt her relax a bit, the contraction over, though more would come quickly. "So, do we want a boy or a girl?" he asked, trying to keep the conversation flowing to distract her from what she was going through. Everybody had a preference when it came to babies, and anyone who said they didn't mind was a liar. That was what Leo believed, and he would say as much if Dora denied that she wanted one more than the other. It was a gut feeling, ignoring or denying your gut was foolish. "And what about names, do you have any picked out? Leo is a pretty strong name for a boy," he grinned. He did not expect her or anyone else to ever name their child after him, though he couldn't deny it would be a nice ego boost. It would have been a better choice than Blaise. Leo had really thought Kara was joking when she'd told him that was what she was calling her baby. Stay out, and we'll live forever now Leo's eyebrows rose just a fraction before he pulled them back under control. He was used to seeing patients with family members who were complete dicks. It happened all the time, and wasn't actually that shocking, but for some reason seeing it in a maternity ward was a little bit more of a blow. For a mother to be that shitty about her daughter when she was in labour was something special. Leo didn't pry, it wasn't what he was there for. Whatever family drama was going on in Dora's life, he was sure it would blow over. His sister was proof that everything came to an end sooner or later. Kara had had how many husbands now? It felt like at least ten, but she still bounced back every time. Things were always okay again with time. It would be the same for Dora, time would heal whatever rift was there between her and her mother, he was sure of it. And if it didn't, then she would have her baby to focus on, and what better thing to take your mind off of something awful than a tiny miracle. Leo used his nephew Blaise in a similar way. If he was having a bad day, contrary to wanting time alone to relax, Leo actually missed his nephew and sometimes asked Kara if he could have him, just to take his mind off of whatever was bringing him down. Blaise was an instant happy place for him. Dora's baby would hopefully be the same for her. Dora misunderstood his question, revealing that she also had daddy issues, and Leo let it slide, only acknowledging the bit about the baby's father, who also didn't exist. This girl had no luck. "Immaculate conception," he grinned. "I can get on board with that." It beat thinking that Dora had horrible luck with men. That she'd been used and dropped once she was pregnant, or that she was the type to sleep around. Leo knew nothing of her, really. He'd met her at his barbeque and that was his knowledge of her. From what he'd heard just in the last few minutes in this room, she wasn't having the best ride in life. "I think a matron should be around by the time you're ready, but I'm available for hand holding, I've heard contractions hurt just a little bit." He moved to the side of the bed where she was struggling to get comfortable, and placed a hand on the bottom of her back as she groaned in pain. Leo's hand moved in firm circles across her back, rubbing the pain away for her, or at least some of it. He couldn't just stand there and watch her struggle, especially now that he knew she was alone in this. Did Jasper even know what he meant? It was possible that he was shocked and confused and utterly embarrassed and so didn't know what he wanted. Luckily, Immy decided to excuse herself once Jas' arm was popped back into place, and Leo nodded as she looked to the back doors. "Go ahead, I'll be back out in a bit. There are burgers!" he called after her as she headed towards the main group out by the pool. He wondered if there'd be any burgers left by the time he got Jasper sorted. His stomach growled at the thought. Doc was making chicken, if everyone had demolished his burgers, he'd have to settle for that, or whatever else Doc cooked up. Jasper might feel better with some food in him, too. Leo glanced back down at him. "Lets get you up," he said. "If you want to lay down, do it on the couch where nobody can trip over you." Laying at the bottom of the stairs was not the best plan. He held a hand out to haul Jasper up, carefully. "I'll get you some water and a burger," he added. "And maybe some polyjuice potion to help you get through the rest of the day without being mortified. Ah, mate," Leo sighed, shook his head, laughed a little. "You know I was hoping you and Immy would hit it off today. How am I meant to hook you up if you can't walk in a straight line without breaking limbs?" He was grinning, but the frustration was there. He wanted Jasper to find a good woman. He deserved someone to go home to every night, someone to put a spring in his step, someone to remind him what sex felt like. Merlin, Leo needed the same if he were honest, but he was a little bit more particular about women. He knew what he did and didn't like. Jasper was harder to match because Leo had no idea what his type was, or if he even had a type. Immy was shouting for him, and he glanced at Doc, who had appeared at his side at the mention of burnt burgers. "Thanks, man," he said as Doc offered to take over the cooking of the chicken, a huge relief for Leo, who now had his beer in one hand and his wand in the other, making a beeline for the house. The scene before him was not what he had expected at all. Jasper was laying on the floor, blood smeared on his face as Immy waved her wand over a large cut to heal it. His arm was twisted in a very unnatural manner, and he looked like he was in a lot of pain. And embarrassment. There was definite embarrassment there, and Leo really felt for Jasper. He had hoped the guy would hit it off with Immy, not the floor. He should have seen Immy in himself, and then she and Jas could have chatted without any drama. This was a disaster. "Oh, Jas, what the hell happened?" he asked, looking to Immy. "Did someone spill a drink or something?" He glanced at the floor near Jasper's feet, but it was dry. The stairs were probably the guilty party, but honestly, could Jas have been any clumsier if he tried? Leo cringed as he assessed Jasper's arm. "It's not broken, but the shoulder definitely looks dislocated. We're gonna have to pop it back in place." He nodded to Immy. "You hold him still and I'll do it," he said, waiting until she had Jasper pinned down firmly before grabbing hold of the top of Jasper's arm. Leo shook his head. "My parties aren't always this dramatic, I swear. Three, two-" he snapped the shoulder back into place on two, the sound making his stomach turn just a little bit. Immy had just stepped through the front door and had this to deal with. What she must have been thinking was beyond Leo, but he hoped it didn't put her off staying, or coming again for any more of his little shindigs. It was a pretty name for a pretty witch, though now was hardly the time to be thinking about how pretty Dora was. She would surely be a sweating, screaming mess in a few hours if all went smoothly. Honestly, Leo thought she'd probably look attractive like that, too, though he'd keep such thoughts to himself. "I don't work maternity," he explained, putting her notes back and leaning against the bottom of the bed with a smile. "I've been roped into covering someone's shift. But don't worry, you're in good hands." Leo had never delivered a baby in his life, but he knew if it came down to it he would be able to pull it off. Unless there were complications, of course, he knew nothing about that side of medicine, but a straight up push-the-baby-out scenario would be easy enough for him. He was confident enough in himself to do that, and as long as he portrayed that confidence to the women on the ward, everything would be just fine. "Did you say your mum is with you?" he asked, wracking his brain to try and remember if he had seen any older women out in the hallways on his rounds. He hadn't. It was pretty dead out there, not a wandering parent in sight, which made him wonder what could have happened to Dora's mum. Maybe she went to the cafeteria for a bite to eat, that wasn't so uncommon, though he did wonder why a mother would leave her daughter alone when she was in labour. He also couldn't help but wonder where the father was. "Do we have a father in the building somewhere, too?" he asked, tone light. You never knew, sometimes women went it alone. His sister was a perfect example of that, raising little Blaise without his father, and relying heavily on Leo being a babysitting mug for her. It was best not to piss the patients off if you could help it, he'd learned that the hard way over the years. Sensitivity was key to a successful career as a healer. Leo shook his head as he tugged his badge off of his work robe. "No. Absolutely not. I'm finished for the night." He was going home, he was reading a book and having a drink. The maternity ward would survive without him. "Leo," Brenda pleaded, hands outstretched in the most pitiful pose she could manage as she stood in the doorway of the staff room. "Look, there must be other people you could ask. I'm not a matron, this isn't my area." He looked around the empty room they were in, where there was clearly no one else to ask. Squeezing past Brenda, he began to walk down the hall as she tailed him. "There isn't. Leo, you're good at your job, you're one of the best Healers in the hospital, all we need is for you to check on some of the mothers, you won't be delivering, just babysitting until we can free up a few matrons." She'd told him this three times now, and the more she said it, the worse he felt about saying no. He knew he could keep an eye on a few early stage mothers if he really had to, administer some pain relief, tell them they were fine and whatever else they needed to hear. He just didn't want to. His book... He paused at the end of the corridor where a painfully empty nurses station sat. The place was deserted, but he could hear the cries of birthing women coming from rooms on the ward. "We'll put you down for double pay," Brenda coaxed, checking her watch. "An hour. Then I'm going home." Her wrinkled face broke into a grin. "You are a literal life saver, Zabini, thank you." Without another word, she hurried off into a side room where it sounded like a whale was dying, leaving Leo to figure out what he was supposed to do on his own. He clipped his badge back on and checked the lists of patients at the nurses station, slowly making his way around the rooms. Any that he could hear matrons voices in, he avoided, and focused on the quieter ones. There were women in most of the rooms, though some of them were very early in the labour stages and needed no help at all other than a bit of encouragement that yes, their baby would come out eventually, and yes, they could have a cup of tea while they waited. He couldn't imagine how awful it must feel to have to wait around for hours in agony, not knowing when it was going to end. At least in Leo's usual work, he fixed people up quickly, and they didn't have to suffer for hours, or even days. He cringed as he poked his head into a room and received an earful of a screaming woman who apparently didn't want a male healer anywhere near her while she was in labour. "That's fine, that's fine," he soothed, exiting quickly with a promise of getting a matron to check in on her soon. With a short list of room numbers and requests of tea or a snack, or pain relief, he returned to the nurses station, where Jedidiah was sitting looking like he had been in a fight with a bear. His red hair stuck up in all directions, and there were scratches on his face. "Why don't women like having men deliver their babies?" he asked as Leo gave him the list. Leo shook his head sympathetically. "This is why I stick to spell damage, man," he said, patting Jed on the shoulder and heading to the last room that needed checking. He knocked gently before opening the door, sticking his head in first to check for potential danger before committing himself fully to the room. His eyes widened at the sight he was met with. "Dora?" he asked, half confused, half smiling. He'd met her at his barbeque just last month, but hadn't thought she was due to have her baby yet. Stay out, and we'll live forever now Leo was about to make a highly insensitive comment about how Frey would be pushing out something much bigger than a bean, but she was saved from his humour by a small voice calling out from inside. Leo craned his neck to see Imelda Fenwick looking a little bit lost inside his house. She was alone, and he took a few steps towards the back door so she could see him. He'd only moved a few paces away from the barbeque when something started to crackle loudly over the flames. "Immy, you made it," he smiled, glancing over his shoulder in time to see flames shooting skyward from the barbeque. "Oh, damn!" Rushing back to the burning food, he patted Jasper on the shoulder, putting the blue bag with the rum inside back in Jasper's hand. "Jas, can you put this under the bar and show Immy in for me?" he asked, trusting Jasper to see his guest in safely, and hoping that they'd subtly hit it off. "Hey, do you know Jasper?" he called to Immy over his shoulder as he began flicking his wand to control the flaming burgers, floating them out of the flickering fire and onto a plate, where they sizzled. They weren't too burned, just a bit charred, but still edible. "This is going well," he laughed, putting the burgers on a table that was filled with hotdogs and buns and other food he'd already prepared or charred ten minutes ago. People were helping themselves, but Leo hadn't had a bite to eat yet. "I need Doc out here," he muttered to himself. Doc was reliable in a fiery crisis, he'd make sure Leo didn't burn his house down. Wherever he was. He was probably inside with a cool drink and good company. Leo would have asked Dorian for a bit of assistance, but the guy could only stay for a few hours, he didn't need to spend his time playing chef when he should be relaxing and being sociable. "Burnt burgers are up!" Leo called loudly, thinking he might go with chicken next. He chuckled as she told him she'd be sitting by the water for the day if anyone asked, and he made a note of it. He was sure Gabe would ask him at some point if he didn't already know where his girl was, he was a good fiance, he actually cared, unlike some of the guys Leo knew, who treated their wives like nothing more than pieces of meat. He didn't like that side of some of his pureblooded friends. They married because they were told to, and therefore had little to zero respect for their wives. It wasn't Leo's style. He was more a committed and caring kind of guy, and he wanted to marry for love, something he was lucky to be able to do one day since his parents had never thought to try and pair him up with someone. He was thankful for that, and thankful for friends like Gabriel Ollivander. Dorian stepped outside, a look of mirth on his face as he asked whether Frey was sipping on vodka. Leo glanced at the clear liquid in Freya's glass. It could easily pass for vodka. He let out a chuckle. "Gotta start them early, Dor," he said with a shrug. "Kid's gonna come out fighting." Freya rolled her eyes at him, and he laughed some more as Jasper rolled in late, as expected, and held out a small blue gift bag. Leo took it and peeked inside, pulling out the bottle of rum and giving it a lover's look. He whistled low. "Oh, this is getting hidden away for something special," he crooned, caressing the bottle and patting Jasper on the back. "Thanks, man." He slid the bottle back into the blue bag and kept hold of it, intending to see it to a safe place himself, rather than put it down and risk someone opening it. "I am kid free, and if Kara shows up here with him, you have my blessing to kick her out and lock the door." He was smiling, but he really meant it. She had better not have the cheek to bring Blaise to the barbeque. It was adults only. Stay out, and we'll live forever now It was hard to believe it was April already. Leo felt like it was only a week ago that he was waking up on New Years Day with a killer hangover and a faint memory of having his butt groped by a man in some club. He couldn't even remember where he'd ended up, or how he'd got home that night, but it didn't feel like three months ago, that was for sure. Time waited for no man, and Leo intended to move right along with it. He'd gotten his place set up with some baby essentials, for a start, since his sister insisted on ditching her new son on other people whenever she could. She was a good mother when she was with Blaise, but her patience for him was almost non existent, and Kara would often get fed up and desperate for some time alone. Leo didn't mind having Blaise stay over with him, not one bit. He had always had a knack with kids, and it was easy enough to look after a four month old baby for a night. He woke up a few times in the night, but aside from that, he was a pretty pleasant kid. And he was getting weekly bonding time with his uncle, which was great if you ignored the reason behind it. He was nephew free for the weekend this week. He'd minded the tiny pooper on Wednesday night so that Kara could go to karaoke, and as payment, she had to keep her own son all weekend, and miss out on the Easter barbeque Leo was having with some friends. Usually he would invite his siblings to come along, and Enzo said he would show up for an hour or two, but Kara would be noticeably absent, and rightly so. Leo had gotten in all of the supplies, food and alcohol, and chocolate eggs he would need for a Sunday afternoon with friends, and he'd started up the barbeque out by the pool when he knew people were due to start arriving. He'd lost track of how many people were supposed to be coming, but there was music playing loudly, the sun was shining, and it was set to be the perfect day. He had every intention of setting Jasper up with Immy today. They were both cute, and Immy had been single for far too long, so why the hell not. Jasper was too reserved for Leo's liking when it came to women, he needed to put himself back out there, and someone like Imelda would be perfect for him; classy, beautiful, not likely to sleep with a football team behind his back. It really couldn't go wrong. He sipped on a glass of whiskey as he listened to the buzz of chatter around him from the guests who had already arrived. Entrance
When you first enter the manor, you will find yourself in this bright, open
space, with a small seating area facing the front door, and impressive
stairs winding up to the upper floor.
Living area
Cast your eye to the left a little, and you will see the home opens up to
reveal the main living area, which has a lovely fireplace and couches. It's
not the most comfortable, but it's a fine space for formal guests to sit in.
Dining room
Right next door to the main living area is the dining room, with a table large
enough to entertain quite a few guests, and an adequate amount of sparkle to
satisfy Leo's love of glamour.
Kitchen
The kitchen is beautiful, with the ceiling being an absolute masterpiece. Leo
can cook really well, or so he says, and likes to whip up a feast in here. Also,
he just looks incredible in the lighting.
Informal living room/Bar
On the far side of the kitchen, you will find another living area, though one that
is actually comfortable. This is the comfy space that Leo and his friends and family
hang out in. It also has a bar, so aside from being right next to the kitchen for
easy food access, you also don't have to leave the room for drinks.
Office
Leo's office is neat and tidy, and purely a space for any work he brings home. He
doesn't come in here, otherwise.
Master Bedroom
This is Leo's room, and it's basic but there's a grandness about it that he loves,
not to mention the incredible floor to ceiling window. The adjoining bathroom is up
a small spiral staircase, open to the bedroom with an ornate balcony.
Master bathroom
This bathroom overlooks the master bedroom by balcony, and is home to the most
amazing bath tub. Leo takes advantage of this after long work days. Or with company.
Spare bedrooms
There are six spare bedrooms in the manor, all of which are decorated with neutral
colours and comfortable furniture. His friends and family are always welcome to stay,
and he has recently purchased a cot for his baby nephew Blaise to be able to stay over.
Bathrooms
Four other bathrooms in the house are all very similar. Simple with a touch of glamour.
Pool
The back of the manor is closed in with glass, and a stunning pool which overlooks the
lakes that sit behind the manor. It has incredible views, and the lack of a garden is
barely noticeable thanks to the pool and sense of being out in nature. Leo spends a lot
of time out here, summer or winter. He has his own dock out on the lake, and a boat that
he is quite adept at sailing.
