A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
The bright lights blinded her to the faces of the cheering crowd as she took her final bow. The movements of their clapping hands and the noise it created was an unmistakable applause as Lyra beamed, her chin high as her back straightened as she came back up again. She felt a flutter in her chest, that indescribable sense of adoration from her fans. She loved it. She craved it. The actors around her stepped back and Lyra bowed once more, basking in the glorious applause, supported by hoots and whistles and someone in the back of the theatre shouting her name. They loved her. The women wanted to be her and the men wanted to be with her. Nothing on this great green earth could replace the feeling of a standing ovation at the final curtain.
“Thank you,” she said with a practiced smile on her face as she passed a stagehand in the wings on her way to her green room. They all adored her, even her fellow thespians. Lyra couldn’t walk ten feet without someone telling her what a magnificent job she’d done tonight. She didn’t need telling, it was obvious in and of itself but still the congratulations were welcomed right up until the moment she shut her dressing room door and the noise of the theatre died away.
Reds, pinks, and purples covered the vanity, obscuring her view of the mirror as she sat on the plush little stool to tend to her face. Plucking the card from the center of the bouquet, Lyra gave a haughty grin as she read over the card, knowing instantly whose name would be signed at the bottom. Only one person called her his ‘golden goddess’ and while she quite liked the sound of the epithet, she didn’t much care for the man who had coined the phrase. She had dealt with worse offenders than this one, but her parents worried and had hired someone to keep this stalker away from her; clearly the body guard wasn’t doing his job properly. Lyra rose and moved to the door which led to the rest of the backstage. Pulling it open, she popped her head out and caught the eye of the first person to pass by. “Pardon, have you seen Rhys about?” Lyra would be having a chat with her father about her absentee body guard. She rolled her eyes as her question was answered. “Well ask about for him. I’ve got this bloody psychopath on me again.” She raised her hand flippantly, the card from her stalker on display. All the more attention on her, with the rest of the cast worried for her. Shutting the door again, Lyra threw the card in the bin and sat back in front of her vanity, admiring the beautiful flowers in front of her. He might have been a creep and a pervert, but her stalker did know a thing or two about arrangements. He never failed to get her something beautiful.
Her hair was perfect; long blonde curls that bounced as her hand ran over them, brushing them behind her shoulder. The makeup was a bit a heavy, as theatre makeup tended to be, so she pulled open the top drawer of her vanity and drew her wand. A few elegant rotations of the wrist and Lyra was ready to be seen outside of the playhouse. She changed out of her costume and put on her own clothing; a red dress with a high neckline and peek-a-boo cutout to show off her considerable cleavage. Pulling her fur-lined cloak over her shoulders, she left the flowers in her dressing room as she headed out a side door into a well-lit alley way that would lead her to the high street.
It was early still, only half past eleven, and Lyra was in high spirits after such an amazing performance. A good show did wonders for her energy level and tonight she felt like dancing. Turning towards the pounding thump of a bass, Lyra headed in the direction of the Charmed Nightclub. She walked straight past the queue out front and smiled at the door man, who let her inside after a kiss on the cheek and a compliment on her looks. The music was pulsating, and the lights swirled in a colorful haze around her. Lyra was given a private booth as she always was, and she flung her cloak over the seat as she ordered a cocktail and told the booth attendant to keep an eye on her things. Only moments later, Lyra was on the dance floor, letting the music take her over.

Nights out were few and far between for Quinn. When he did go out it was usually because his mates wanted to go out and find some hot piece to hook up with for the night. Quinn admitted he needed his releases too but not nearly as often as his friends. Quinn preferred to pour himself into his art, to pour his time and energy into something he was proud of. If he didn't like it then he'd start all over again, paint over the piece with white paint and starting again, building on the foundations of failure rather than clearing the canvas magically or starting with a new piece. It was cathartic.
Having not slept for almost three day, Quinn crashed almost literally in his armchair, falling into it gently opposite his latest piece. It wasn't complete but he'd fallen to the sandman. There was still so much to do with it. Quinn wasn't sure what he was going for with the piece - he never did - but he knew there was still a lot more to do. Waking and knowing his mother would be disappointed with him if he didn't at least eat right, Quinn rubbed his eyes, looking around his studio. It was the spare room in his apartment but he never had people over to stay and he'd needed a place for his art. With a few swishes of his wand his art supplies could disappear and the spare room put back to its usual self to appease his mother when she came for visits, at least that wasn't too often.
Getting himself up off the chair was no easy task. His back was aching and he wasn't sure how long he'd been sleep. The last thing he remembered was that it was the early hours of Monday morning, now it seemed like evening but was it still Monday? Quinn would question the day and time later, for now he needed a bath. And a drink. And definitely food, he was starving and his stomach was growling at him.
The bath was good and the heat certainly helped his back. Once he was done he got himself dressed and took himself out for dinner, he didn't much fancy cooking. At dinner he asked for the date and time as his wine arrived and he was surprised to discover it was Tuesday. He'd slept well apparently.
Food and drink only put him in a better mood, he had energy to burn and his art could wait. It was only when he was away from it that he could see how much it was overtaking him. It wasn't unusual for Quinn but sometimes even he had to admit he took things a little too far. A break would be good for the muse. A night out would help inspire and nurture that creative streak of his, people and music were calling out to his soul and Quinn found himself in the heavy beat of music, dancing alone in the middle of a crowd, crushed up against various people while he enjoyed himself, letting loose. He felt so much better after resting, eating and getting a few drinks into him. He'd moved on to a few harder drinks now that he was at a club and with a scotch neat in hand as he moved about the dance floor, foll of energy, he stepped back, his foot falling on another. He turned about, still dancing and yelled out to the blonde before him, "SORRY!" He was still grinning, bouncing up and down, moving side to side, enjoying one hell of a night!

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous The people around her were gorgeous, though not as gorgeous as she, and Lyra was happy to press her body up against them as she swayed to the music. Closing her eyes and letting her head fall back against the shoulder of whatever handsome stranger currently had his hands on her hips, a relaxed smile spread across her face. Lyra was in her element; attractive people, loads of attention, music, lights, and a buoyant energy that infected everyone around her.
She had finished a drink already, and hadn’t bothered to yet order another. Lyra didn’t like to get too drunk in public without someone around that she trusted to watch out for her. There were people in the world who were utterly obsessed with her, despite what her older sister might say with a superior looking roll of her eyes, and Lyra was smart enough to not give them any added incentive to think they could take advantage of her. Two was her max when she was alone, and she tried to space them out enough to create and maintain a nice buzz without affecting her ability to apparate home safely. She knew from observation that others didn’t monitor themselves as closely as she did, and the large foot falling onto her designer heels only reinforced that notion.
The bloke who’d stepped on her foot turned and apologized, a wide grin covering his face. Lyra could hardly fault him, he looked like he was really enjoying himself and that drink in his hand. If he’d not acknowledged the mistake she might have gone off on him, or if she was in a different sort of mood, but she was in high spirits and so she smiled in return as she continued to move to the music. “It’s alright,” she replied loud enough for him to hear without contorting her facial features into a yell to be heard over the thumping beat.

He could be such a klutz sometimes. He wasn't purposefully trying to upset people but Quinn did have trouble moving his body properly after he'd rested it for so long, even if he wanted to paint right now, his mind probably wouldn't have let him coordinate enough to do anything productive. If he'd made a mistake he'd have tried to cover it up but if he made mistake after mistake, as he'd done a few times in the past, then there was nothing he could do than to cover what he'd done and just start again. He wasn't a perfectionist in any other area of his life but when it came to his art he felt it was a part of him, it was an expression of himself that he was placing into the world, representing who he was as a person, and so for that, it had to be perfect. He himself, however, was far from perfect, as he was proving tonight as he stomped on some poor woman's foot.
Quinn had apologised, loudly, to the woman and once she was turned around, Quinn's smile grew a couple of sizes. Man she was beautiful! It was pretty dark and there were a lot of bodies and loud noises and flashing lights but she was a gorgeous inspiration. Quinn recognised her, too. She was one of the Burke lot, if he wasn't mistaken. That was definitely a positive spin for the evening and what was more, she didn't seem to bothered that she'd had her foot trampled by an elephant such as himself. "Honestly, I should be more careful," She was a stunner and while he had her attention, he was going to try and take advantage of that, "Let me buy you a drink, my way of properly apologising." He said loudly. The music was loud, it pounded through his body keeping him hyped up but he had to try and get a chat in with a lovely lady while he could, especially given the way the lights played off her shiny blonde hair, the way her dress clung to her body and the way the red just popped in the sea of dark colours around them.

Cutie was talking to her more now, speaking louder in attempt for her to hear him but the pulsing bass of the music kept Lyra from fully understanding what he was saying. He was delicious though so perhaps she could try a little harder to make out what he was trying to say. Something about honesty and the bayou. Perhaps he’d had a little too much to drink, between clobbering her feet and now talking nonsense. “What?” she said loudly, pointing to her ear to signal that she was having difficulty hearing him. “I can’t hear you.” She shook her head lightly, a pretty yet apologetic smile on her face as she tried to keep eye contact while still keeping rhythm with the music.
She could have been perfectly happy dancing the cares of her day away, letting the music take her and escaping for a bit, but talking with this lad could turn out to be just as fun and Lyra loved saying yes. Yes to new adventures, new people, new anything. Saying yes was a part of her performance training and it had served her well thus far in her career as well as her personal life. The worst that could happen was for this utterly attractive man to turn out to be a dullard and she would have to brush him off or call on one of the security guards to escort him out if he got a little pushy. She’d done it before and knew there was no harm in giving it a go – completely disregarding her stalker who wasn’t so easily deterred.

Everything was exceedingly loud and dark and bright all at once. There were so many elements to this night that absolutely flooded Quinn's senses and he loved every one of them. However it did make talking to a beautiful young lady rather more difficult than usual but she was worth the effort, he thought. As a Burke she was probably betrothed to someone of good standing, he had been at the wedding of one of the Burke sisters to Rabastan and it had been a damn good bash. He recalled seeing this one as one of the bridesmaids, standing beside her sister as she got married. Perhaps she had thought at the time of how one day it would be her, perhaps she had gazed out at the crowd to her fiance and wondered if he was the real love of her life. Quinn could only imagine what thoughts ran through a woman's mind at a wedding and he was certain he was absolutely wrong about it all. The female mind was a complexity that Quinn would never willing try and understand because he did not have the means, that was to say it took something extra special to be able to think like a woman and he most certainly lacked it. Thank Merlin!
Not really able to hear what the lovely young lady had said, Quinn mimicked drinking with his hand. He had knocked into her and while he'd usually apologise and move on, he rather liked the look of her and once he'd made the connection to her being a Burke, he couldn't very well pass up the opportunity to get to know her a little better. Once his awful miming skill was done, he nodded his head towards the bar, taking a step towards it, looking back at the beautiful blonde and then continuing making his way to the bar, hoping that she would follow, but he honestly didn't want to be one of those blokes that came off as too pushy. He'd probably see her again some time if she didn't fancy a drink now, and he could apologise to her then, introduce himself better and start all over again. He probably really needed to start all over because he was making himself out to be a bit of a twat and he was very aware of that fact, though if she did follow behind he hoped she'd forgive his lack sophistication tonight. As he stopped at the bar he turned his head to see if the hot blonde had followed or if she'd stayed with her friends.

The conversation dwindled to mime-work and Lyra smiled, giving a soft unheard laugh as Cutie gestured that he was going to the bar and had apparently been trying to invite her. Bloody loud music, it was excellent for forgetting your cares and dancing the night away but now she was wishing for something at a little more reasonable volume so she could actually hear this bloke. It would be so disappointing to flirt with such a handsome man only to get him home and discover he had an effeminate voice. He wouldn’t be the first man to have their sex-god status shattered by a girlish speaking voice but he was so attractive, Lyra really hoped this wasn’t the case.
She followed along the short distance off the dancefloor and over to the bar where the music was a little less intense. They’d still have to use raised voices to be heard but she was certain she’d be able to keep up a conversation with him here, so long as he was capable of having a conversation. If he was, perhaps she’d suggest they go out to the patio where the music would be even more dulled and they could really flirt properly but this was good for now. She wasn’t planning on having another drink so early in the evening, but Cutie was offering and she supposed it wouldn’t hurt to speed things up a bit, so long as she didn’t have anymore after that.
Lyra admired his rear as she followed him to the bar and a nagging feeling came over her that she’d admired him bum before. But where? She slid into an opening at the bar next to Cutie and leaned against the edge of the bar top, looking more thoughtfully at his face. “Have we met before?” she asked, her voice raised slightly but finding she didn’t need to yell in this part of the club. It sounded like a pick up line. Had he said it to her she would have rolled her eyes at him and walked away, because men were rarely sincere when they asked that question but now that she was paying more attention he really did look familiar.

The hot blonde Quinn thought he recognised followed him across the dance floor and to the bar. A genuine smile spread across his face knowing that she'd decided to join him rather than run in the opposite direction with her mates like he was some kind of crazed lunatic. She opened with a line he'd heard a lot of blokes use on beautiful women, such as herself, and he looked a little surprised and chuckled, "Are you hitting on me?" He asked, his accent lingering, his lips smirking as he drank in her beauty. "Y'know, I've heard that one a thousand times before, you'll have to do more than that to impress a lad like me." His accent was much more apparent with the longer sentence. "Here, let my buy you a drink to make up for me being a klutz and meanwhile you can think of a better chat up line, deal?" Of course Quinn knew that Lyra wasn't hitting on him, he really did recognise her and she seemed to recognise him which cemented the idea in his mind that she was indeed one of the Burke daughters. He just hoped she wouldn't think of him as a giant, uncoordinated arse this evening.

Perfectly shaped eyebrows raised in amusement as Cutie insinuated she was trying to pick him up. His accent was thick and she recognized it right away as definitively Irish. There were certain accents Lyra couldn’t help but adore, a French accent on a woman, a Spanish accent on a man. This Irish accent was definitely a perk of being able to hear Cutie better, and she appreciated that he was quick witted enough to call her our on her overused line, despite her being completely sincere in her question. “Heard it a thousand times, or used it? At least I don’t go ‘round smashing ladies’ shoes as an opener. If I want to buy someone a drink, I just buy it.” She flashed a dazzling smile at him as she waved her fingers delicately at the bartender to catch his attention. “Dirty martini,” she said as the bartender walked to their part of the bar, her eyes still on Cutie trying to figure out where she knew him from. He looked a bit older, and while she’d been out of school several years now, it wasn’t so long ago that she thought she’d forget a face like that had they shared any lessons or even a common room. Perhaps he was one of Lilith’s ex-boyfriends, or a mate of Lucian’s. Or he was just a really attractive bloke and Lyra’s brain was trying to justify her spending any time with him when she’d only come here to unwind. “So, did it hurt?” she asked Cutie, looking down at his feet – which clearly struggled to keep him moving straight on the dance floor – then back up to his light eyes, “when you feel from Heaven?” This time it was a chat up line, and a damned cheesy one at that, but he wasn’t the only one who could be funny.

Quinn was drawn in by the woman's beauty. The sway of her blonde hair was almost hypnotic as she moved. It held such a beautiful lustre and her features were simply alight with her wit which was way off point. Him? Use such a chat up line? Merlin no! That was way too tacky and Quinn barely ever spoke to women. It was amazing he was even able to maintain eye-contact with this lovely creature but he was putting it down to the alcohol he'd consumed this evening. A little liquid ... well not courage, he didn't need courage, but it was certainly something to loosen him up a little. Quinn wasn't much of a drinker usually but he'd been dragged out for the night and if he was in a space he was uncomfortable with, then he was damn well going to drink until he felt comfortable. Apparently he was at that level. "What! Pft. Never." He said with a bit of a sarcastic tone to imply that perhaps he had used such a line although truly he'd never. He'd never used chat up lines in his life because how would you even do that? There was no walking up to a woman and just talking to her, Quinn would probably say the wrong thing if he tried that with anyone other than a friend.
She ordered herself a drink and then asked a question which left him with a quizzical look which he was certain made him look absolutely stupid while she seemed to be checking him out, then she finished the chat up line, one he'd known other blokes to use a million times over, and he groaned, rolling his eyes. Quinn smirked, laughing, almost in disbelief, "Wow," He chuckled, grinning, unable to believe the dauntlessness of this woman, "Do you seriously think I'm the devil, the fallen angel Lucifer?" He asked, his mind racing, "I suppose it's an easy mistake to make, I'm quite Heavenly." He said, putting on an exceedingly pompous kind of smile for play. "I should introduce myself, so there's no further confusion." He clarified, his face returning to it's normal smile, "Quinn Blackwood." He did a little bow, just his head moving forward slightly and the tops of his shoulders. "It's my absolute pleasure to make your acquaintance tonight, Miss." And it was. Genuinely. This woman was fun to be around, more fun than half of his friends, and he'd spent probably less than five minutes in her company so far and he hoped once he'd got her a drink, that she'd be up for spending a bit more time together.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
His face was so expressive, Lyra found herself watching the little wrinkles that formed between his eyebrows or across his forehead as he reacted to her horrid chat up line. “Just a smidge,” she said with a smirk, her nose wrinkling as she gave a little wink in his direction. He very well could have been Lucifer himself, he was dashing enough to qualify on looks alone, but he seemed like a fun spirit and if she were doomed to an eternity in the pits of hell Lyra considered going willingly if accompanied by this bloke. Not that she was slated for a fiery demise, nor that she even really believed in hell as a part of the afterlife. Lyra didn’t generally like to think on her death, though she’d been known to threaten it a time or two in a more dramatic moment particularly in her teenage years. Living was much more her speed and she liked to live life to the fullest, ensuring everyone saw how fabulous she was as often as possible.
Cutie introduced himself properly, giving Lyra a name to refer to him by instead of ‘Cutie’ which was still more than appropriate for her own thoughts. “Lovely to meet you, Mister Blackwood.” A flirtatious smile appeared as she tilted her head downward ever so slightly, looking up at him through her long lashes. “I’m Lyra,” she said simply, not bothering to give her surname as she assumed this was mostly a formality – everyone knew who she was. “Not that I want to admit my chat up line wasn’t flawlessly executed, because it was,” she gave him a cheeky grin as the bartender brought her drink over and she reached for it, “but you do look familiar. I think my mum might play bingo with yours. Betty Burke?” She sipped her drink, awaiting his response but not expecting him to keep track of his mother’s friends. Lyra certainly didn’t know all of her mum’s friends, and she really was just grasping at straws to find a link between them. It wouldn’t look very good if Quinn had been a beau of Lilith’s in the past and she was seen flirting with him now, but a family friend was perfectly acceptable should they be caught on camera and plastered on front page of some tabloid come morning.

Quinn had been looking to let off a little steam, he had bundles of energy after having slept for practically two days straight, and he was looking forward to dancing some of that energy off, but his carelessness had taken him in another direction. He was now in a role reversal situation of flirting with an attractive blonde he vaguely recognised and now she had his name and he had hers. Quinn had had no intentions of hooking up tonight but with the way things were going with the lovely Lyra, he wouldn't say 'no' if she was up for something a little more than her creative take on pick up lines. The pick up line itself was awful, just terrible, and certainly not the sort he'd ever use on a woman because he was sure it would earn him a slap, or in the very least a severe eye roll, but the fact that she'd flipped the whole come on line notion on its head and gone with the usually male role. He'd not seen a woman do that before and it was highly entertaining, and Quinn liked a woman that could hold her own against a man. In wits at least.
"The pleasure is mine, Lyra." He told her, fully meaning it, too. She mentioned their mothers and a wand illuminated in his mind. His mouth opened a little in realisation and a soft 'Ahh' noise escaped him, although over the heavy music of the club it couldn't quite be heard. Still the realisation was written all over his face and he felt a bit like a knob in not realising he was talking to the Lyra Burke. She was a literal star and he'd not recognised her. He felt like he needed to make that up to her without making it obvious that he should have recognised her from her plays, "That's right, yeah, yeah." He said, his head nodding as he spoke, going through the long line of Burke children. "From what I understand your mum is a crafty witch, always hogging the best numbers." He chuckled, "Bet she takes home some lovely prizes. A basket of meat, perhaps, I don't really know what gets won at bingo," he confessed with a chuckle as the drinks they'd ordered arrived. Quinn put down the coin, not bothering with a tab tonight, and then picked up the drinks handing Lyra's over to her, "To cheesy chat up lines and bingo mums." He said, his glass raised offering up one of the worst toasts in history. It could have been worse, he could have spilt her drink again and toasted to 'bingo meat', which had been about to come out before he'd thought better of it and toasted their mums instead. Bloody hell that was lame of him!

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Lyra’s knowledge of bingo prizes seemed about as well-versed as Quinn’s but she laughed regardless. “At least you didn’t toast to meat baskets,” she remarked with a grin, clinking her martini glass against his and making googly eyes at him before taking a sip. Cheesy chat up lines and bingo mums, indeed. Lyra made a mental note to pester her mum for any information she might know about Mrs Blackwood’s son without letting on that they’d met at the club. Her parents were already worried about her stalker despite Lyra considering it a minor irritation at best, they didn’t need to fret about her sullying the Burke name by bouncing from one wizard or witch to another. She liked to keep her romantic life between herself, her partners, and the tabloids (so long as it brought her any sort of notoriety or heightened her status as a celebrity). Sunday tea chatting about boyfriends and girlfriends was not on the agenda, but this wouldn’t be the first time she pulled information about a potential suitor’s family from her mum, and based on her track record, it wouldn’t be the last.
The music was loud but Lyra quite liked chatting with this handsome bloke who made awful toasts, so she decided to invite him out to the patio where they could talk more comfortably. “I need a bit of fresh air,” she said, leaning in closer to him so that he could hear the hint of seduction in her voice properly. “Care to join me?” She smiled at him invitingly as she pulled herself back and then nodded in the direction of the patio before turning around and heading out through the crowd toward two large glass doors. As she approached, the doors magically opened for her and a cool breeze struck her, blowing at the long fringe that framed her face.
Chatting lead to more serious flirting – none of those horrid chat up lines – and flirting led to snogging on the patio chairs. She might have rushed having that second drink so early in the evening without giving herself time to absorb some of the alcohol. Normally, Lyra wouldn’t have allowed herself in such a compromising scene in public, at least not unplanned, but she found Quinn very charming and more attractive than his charms was how real he was. He wasn’t like other actors or artists she’d dated in the past, all wrapped up in their own worlds to properly pay her attention. It might have just been an act he put on to woo the starlet but Lyra was falling for it hook, line, and sinker. When they departed separately, she wasn’t so intoxicated that she thought going home with a strange bloke after publicly snogging him right under the paparazzi’s eyes, she left him with her contact details and an expectation that he ring her later for a proper date.

And you will never know just how beautiful you are to me The Charmed nightclub was naturally quieter on a Tuesday night, and so Dougie sat at the bar alone. He hadn't intended to come in here at all, only he'd spotted Lyra entering earlier and followed without much question at all. She looked wonderful, but then she always did, and he felt a spike of pride that his girl was such a head turner and looked after herself so well. He would look after her one day soon, but she was doing wonderfully on her own. He had entered the club not far behind her, and been dismayed to see her strike up a conversation with a guy that Dougie didn't recognise. At first he had thought it might be a work colleague, but the man was unrecognisable, and no oil painting, if Doug did say so. His plans to approach Lyra had gone out of the window, and so he'd resigned himself to the bar, where he had a good view of his love and her companion. They were laughing, and the pangs of jealousy were agonising. Almost too much to bear. Should he interrupt? Head over and say hello anyway? No. No, that would be rude. He didn't want her to think him rude at all. He wasn't. His manners were impeccable, she surely knew that by now. He sipped his drink, then ordered another, slowly working his way through glasses of water until eventually Lyra and the unfamiliar man left to go outside together, and Dougie's heart dropped into the floor. He slammed his glass down on the bar and stood up roughly, almost knocking his stool over as he hurried out of the club, crushed. _______________________ tag: Lyra Ophelia Genevieve Burke words: 316 notes: </3 outfit: Jeans, blue shirt. template by izzy[googlefont="Just Me Again Down Here"][googlefont="Cinzel Decorative"]
