Discoveries Again, he was met with minimal talk, and a reluctance to interact at all, and Jules sighed, flinging an arm out as he decided to just be blunt. "Look, Cora, I know this is not the best situation in the world, but it is our life, and I for one, am happy to discover someone that I actually like in the same boat as me. That's a rarity, you know?" He pressed his lips together, eyes wide as he tried to get through to her. "I've had a pack for years, and some of them are complete and utter dicks. When you find the good ones, trust me, stick with them, because it gets very lonely living this life." Jules had met some real arseholes in his time, and it was lucky for him that he gave off more of an alpha air than most, because he was someone the other wolves didn't mess with. He was known for being scrappy and fierce, a rebel amongst rebels, and ruthless when angry, and he had had his fair share of fights among his pack, weeding out the shitheads and, as he liked to call it, cleansing the group. Nobody else had the balls to do it, and so he had inevitably become someone who was respected. Now he had given all of that up for his family, his real family, and it was hard. It was harder than he had ever thought it might be all those times he'd imagined it when talking to River about coming home. It was lonely, and it was isolating, and it was scary in a way, to not have your own kind surrounding you all of the time. To be a wolf in a human world was frightening and alien, and though he kept in touch with quite a few members of his pack, it wasn't the same. He didn't have a choice, though. He had thrown himself into his new life, and he would not let Ariel down. He wouldn't. She needed him as much as he needed her, both being each others anchor to River. He would endure the torture of loneliness and alienation for her forever. But maybe, just maybe the likes of Cora could help ease that loneliness a bit. And Jules knew that he could definitely help her. "You might not trust me right now, but I'm trusting you to keep my secret." He sighed. "Know that I would do the same for you." He hooked his two backpacks over his shoulder, expecting some sort of nod in response in lieu of words. He was ready for home, he'd had enough of this for one morning. _______________________ tag: Cora Calliope Vance words: 462 notes: <3 template by izzy [googlefont="Dancing Script"]

There was a sincerity to his words that Cora wasn't sure she'd ever heard from him before. The air of mischief that he had always had during their past interactions was not present, instead he seemed to be speaking of truth, from the heart and soul of his own personal experiences, endeavouring to connect with her on a level she wasn't sure anyone beyond the reach of her sisters could ever reach. Trust was not something Cora was able to place in people. Her own parents had practically turned their backs on her. They tried to pretend as though she didn't exits. They hadn't gone so far as to disown her but it was certainly something she knew they wanted to do. Her condition wasn't truly secret but it seemed that those that may have known about it had forgotten as the years passed on by but it wasn't something her parents could ever forget. If the whole magical world knew what she was then she would have been an outcast.
Julian said he would keep her secret and Cora wasn't sure. He seemed genuine enough but what did that even matter? She wasn't willing to believe him flat out and after years of distancing herself from people, she wasn't even sure if she could ever find even the desire to want to trust him, or anyone for that matter. So she nodded her head. "Sure. And thanks." She said softly. There was nothing else for her to say. She felt on edge, she felt exposed. She'd keep his secret for now. She had no intention of purposefully outing him to anyone, not even her own family, but she felt unsure that she could expect the same from Julian. Cora had no idea if he could be trusted, she dearly wanted to forget about having seen him at all but his scent was all over her, it was in her cave now. All she wanted to do was go home, shower, and sleep off the transformation hangover for a couple of days - hopefully without having any nightmares in that time.

Discoveries Jules nodded as he got his non response. He wanted to snap at her, to make some cutting comment about how he was standing there being genuine and reaching out to her, and she was being an ice bitch in return, and it wasn't okay. Some part of him whispered that it wouldn't help the situation, and if he wanted her to believe what he had just said, he needed to keep his cool. He wasn't sure what made him listen to that tiny voice, but he was too tired to question it. "Right," he nodded, eyes drifting over the cage and broken bits and bobs in her cave. "I'll leave you to it, then." And without another word, he left the cave, and headed back out into the forest, following the stream until he reached a thicker patch of trees. He lashed out with his fist and snapped a branch clean off the tree nearest to him with the punch, frustrated and annoyed at being treated like someone lesser by his own kind. He had liked Cora when they were young, considered her a friend, and here she was freezing him out because of what he was. The more he thought about it, the more it made his blood boil. He turned on the spot and disappeared from the woods, appearing with a loud pop in the alleyway behind the apartment building he lived in, his stomach lurching from the motion, making him feel even worse. The sun was shining on his back as he pulled his sleeves down to cover his hands, which were balled into fists. The chill was starting to get to him now that the adrenaline of the night was wearing off, and he needed to get inside. Hopefully he wouldn't run into his brother on his way in, not that he wouldn't love seeing Ariel, but he didn't have the energy for them right now. He was tired and aggravated, and the only thing that would fix that was a full day of sleep. He hurried into the building and up the stairs, keeping his head down as he fumbled for his spare key, which was tucked on top of the door frame out of sight. He managed to get inside without being seen by any nosy neighbours, and threw his bags down on the floor by the door, turning the lock and crossing to the kitchen. He needed to go shopping, there wasn't much there to eat, but within a few minutes, he had a steaming mug of tea in one hand, and a plate of toast in the other. Jules crawled into his bed, not even bothering to get changed, and sat in the dark with the curtains drawn, enjoying the quiet and solitude. _______________________ tag: Cora Calliope Vance words: 478 notes: <3 template by izzy [googlefont="Dancing Script"]
