nadia elara king
PERSONALITY Boggart: Lara sees her father telling her she's failed and is unworthy. He continues to berate her in the same fashion that her mother does, reducing her to tears. Mirror of Erised: Lara sees herself shaking hands with the board members of her father's company. Her father tells her how proud he is of the woman she's become. Patronus: Fox - Conjured by the summer she spent at her Father and Grandfather's side learning the ins and outs of the family business. Nadia, who prefers to go by Lara, is an ambitious, intelligent, somewhat ruthless pureblood. She inherited black hair, ambition, and passion from her father, and blue eyes, beauty, and a volatile temper from her mother. Though the latter only presents itself when she doesn't get her way - and that is very rare. She is most afraid failure and losing her "birthright". She's had to work very hard to earn her place in the world, but it is constantly under threat due to her gender. This means she typically works harder and is more ruthless than her male cohorts all while exuding grace and femininity as expected of her. Unlike a man, it's improper behavior for her to swear or bully her way through a board meeting. Thus every move she makes is typically calculated and perfected prior to engagement, and every take down is methodically staged in advance. For all their disagreements and mutual disdain for one another Lara has learned much from her mother. Mainly: Reputation is everything. Never let them see you cry. And victory at all costs. Of course the way she learned this was through repeated silent battles of will between mother and daughter. She's extremely practical and independent and doesn't cater much to "feelings". Her sole ambition is to take over her father's company and won't let anything stand in her way. She doesn't have many friends, more like acquaintances, mutually beneficial hookups, and pawns. HISTORY Mother: Lana King (née Borgin), 43, Pureblood Father:Alexander King, 49, Slytherin, Pureblood Siblings: None Partners: None Others: Jupiter King, 67, Slytherin, Pureblood Cressida King, 61, Ravenclaw, Pureblood First Comes Marriage All Lana Borgin wanted was a handsome husband to love her. All Alexander King wanted was to marry his mistress. Instead they got each other and a loveless, unhappy, union – the product of which was bitterness, resentment, and a beautiful baby girl. Infancy Alexander named her Nadia, as Lana had no interest in naming the child. Her middle name, Elara, was a family name and one of the moons of Jupiter – much to the delight of Jupiter King, Alexander’s father. But by two Nadia Elara King would only answer to “Lara” sometimes “Ellie” but only by her father or grandfather, the two men in her life she had wrapped around her finger. Unfortunately, the familial bond stopped with Lara’s father and grandparents. Lana’s feelings toward her child were lukewarm at best. Lara often sought to bond with her mother, but Lana could not be bothered and found the infant’s attachment to be irritating. By three Lara rarely sought any type of comfort from her mother but received more than enough love from her father and grandparents. Childhood Lara wanted for nothing. Alexander King, COO of King’s Development, took exceptional delight in spoiling his little princess and parading her around his associates. She was a late bloomer in some ways. She didn’t speak until she was nearly three – Alexander had claimed that she was remarkably intelligent and simply hadn’t wanted to talk. But she was advanced in other ways, displaying magical tendencies on her fourth birthday by relighting a candle on her cake to blow them out again – Alexander once again claimed her to be brilliant. When she did begin speaking more often, her favorite word was, “more” and she used it frequently: more toys, more magic, more, more, more. Her father was usually happy to oblige. Though she was spoiled to the high heavens, the one thing she treasured most was time spent with her father. Her favorite gifts were the books he read to her before bed. Hogwarts Like the rest of her family she received her letter for Hogwarts when she turned eleven. Both her parents and grandfather had been in Slytherin, but her grandmother was a Ravenclaw. Lara didn’t care one way or another, but the hat followed tradition and placed her in Slytherin. An apt choice as Lara grew more ambitious with her education and overall career goals. Lara was more than competitive in school, while she wasn’t the brightest in her class, she was perhaps the most determined to shine. The one area she was innately skilled with was DADA, proving to be an exceptional duelist. When she was sixteen however, she noticed a marked difference between her and her male cohorts. Most of the privileged male students began studying with their fathers to eventually take control over family businesses. Lara spent her vacations and summers being indulged and pampered as the princess she was accustomed to being. When she asked her father about her own training he gave her a blank stare. Alexander had long given up on the idea of having a male heir to carry on his name. He hadn’t touched Lana in years and had no intention of doing so again, but he hadn’t given much thought to Lara succeeding him. He had no idea she would even want to – which was a perfectly ridiculous notion for how well he knew his daughter. Still, the board room was no place for a lady, and they would never listen to a woman. For the first time in her life, she was rebuffed by her father, but for the first time in her life Lara wanted something important. It wasn’t the King family business she wanted, but her father’s respect. While she knew he loved her, he had also written her off and underestimated her worth simply because she wasn’t a boy. His rejection was more painful than the years of distant neglect from her mother which she was well accustomed to. But Lara didn’t give up easily. A week before the start of her 6th year, Lara was nowhere to be found. In a mad panic Alexander nearly called the authorities when Jupiter interrupted him also in a rage holding a letter in his hand. The letter detailed Lara’s plan to run off to Gretna Green to elope where the age of consent was 16. Alexander raced off, threatening to eviscerate whatever young man Lara had roped into her elaborate scheme, Jupiter hot on his heels. Lara was waiting for her father just outside the Blacksmith’s building wearing an impressive diamond on her finger. She calmly accepted his rage and tirade, followed by her grandfather’s rant. But when all was said and done she explained that if her only worth was becoming a wife and bearing children, then she didn’t need to finish school, and that by their logic they should be proud of her for accomplishing the task so swiftly. She moved then to enter the building, when her father called out to her to ask where she was going, she cheekily replied that she and her husband were going to fulfill her other duty – that of bearing children. She had never seen her father turn such a shade before, and she probably should have had a deeper care for her grandfather’s heart in delivering such a sassy answer. It was of course all a ruse, one that her grandmother had endorsed by accompanying her to Scotland absent any supposed groom, but her point had been made. Lara would begin training with her father the following summer, provided that she score well on her OWLs, and would earn a position at the company, provided she left Hogwarts with high marks. In the end Alexander concluded, anyone bold enough to stage an elopement, could certainly handle themselves in the board room. Her mother was not at all pleased with the news, and perhaps a tad bit envious as she would have never had the spine to pull such a trick. She had been raised to expect marriage and childbirth as her duty, but none of her previous attempts to put her foot down had worked in the past, and she was helpless to stop what she saw as hoydenish behavior at the height of impropriety. Now Lara scored well on her OWLs and went further to score well on her NEWTs earning an O in every subject except History of Magic which she found incredibly dull. She trained with her father and grandfather over the summer before her final year at Hogwarts and found she had not only the aptitude for business, but a passion for mergers and acquisitions. She had limitless ambition, and while she was still raw in business she had quite a bit of potential. After graduation she took a permanent position at King’s Development as a Junior Associate working by her father and grandfather’s side, earning a reputation for being charming, but fierce. Jupiter retired at the young age of 65. He had become a figurehead, but most of the business decisions were being carried out by his son or to his surprise and immense pleasure his granddaughter. Cressida had wanted to travel more and being the doting husband he was, decided to hand the reigns over to his son completely, to roam the world with his wife. With Jupiter’s retirement, Alexander became CEO, and after five years of hard work and impressive gains for the company, Lara was promoted to COO, a role not everyone believes she deserves, though she's continued to prove herself for the past two years.
