Carmen was awoken by a pair of wet, tiny hands that were patting all over her face, her daughter wide awake and ready to start the day. A tired smile stretched on her lips while her hooded eyes watched as Jazlynn bounced contently on the air mattress that they have sleeping on for the past few day. Her arm spread out with a hand securely placed to catch the toddler if she bounced too hard and fell backwards. For a long moment she took a look at her new surroundings. The mattress sat in the middle of the hard wood floor and the white walls were bare. It felt so big to her now, but she knew once she started to move in some furnishings that the room would soon come alive. “What do ya say we go and get an actual bed hmm” she asked her daughter, propping her head up on her arm.
Jazzy squealed out her reply, grabbing at Carmen’s face, baby code for yes she had assumed. She literally rolled out of the bed and rummaged through the boxes in the corner to find some clothes to wear, quickly getting dressed. Nothing terribly special, a pair of jeans that fit her and a v-neck sweater. Her curls loosely pulled back into a high ponytail and made the effort to put on mascara just so she did not look like the walking dead. The rest of the morning revolved around making breakfast for the pair and getting her daughter dressed properly for the weather.
Once they were finished, she propped Jazzy on her hip and draped her blanket scarf around her neck. Grabbing her purse and a crudely drawn map, they left the safety of their new home and went to explore the city. Jazlynn content on her hip as she babbled to herself and played with her mother’s necklace. It gave Carmen a chance to take in her surroundings. There was suppose to be a shop close by that furnished and her landlord was kind enough to draw a map but it was absolutely rubbish. She walked down a few streets only to turn back and try again down another street. They had a little bit of everything here … except for what she was looking for.
With a heavy sigh, she looked over her makeshift map and gave up. She repositioned Jaz to sit more comfortably on her hip and looked around for the closet person to ask for directions.

Lost and Wondering It's a new dawn - it's a new day - It's a new life for me And I'm feeling good 503 words Mood: Adventurous “ It was cold. England cold, which was a cold Artemis hadn’t felt in a long time. Winter weather outfits were wasted in America, except when she went to visit her aunt Queenie, at least in New York it got “nippy”. But English cold seeped into your bones no matter how many layers you wore – and Artemis was plenty bundled. She loved the weather. It was one of the things she missed when she went to America. But it still took some time getting used to.She’d been back for almost a month, and things were still a little off. She hadn’t even bought furniture for the cabin, though her parents had been more than willing to part with some of the things from her old room. Still, Artemis had outgrown most of the knick knacks from her past. Now was the perfect time to furnish the new place as her official start date at St. Mungos wasn’t until the end of the month and by then she’d be too busy. She had joked with her family that her money would probably be better spent furnishing the hospital rather than her home for all the time she was sure to spend there. She adored the “bigger on the inside” cabin at the heart of Epping Forest. One of the better things about being a healer with no social life was that Artemis’ savings were significant enough to purchase the place outright, even if that didn’t leave much for furniture and decoration. Thank Merlin Jasper was good with transfiguration and wasn’t too terrible with regular craftsmanship, but there were a few things she had her eye on. Specifically, a mattress and an arm chair for reading. The rest she’d pick up as she went.Filled with purpose, she knew she wouldn’t get anywhere by idly smelling the winter air. She allowed herself one final deep breath then checked both sides of the street before attempting to cross. Her brow furrowed.A lone lost figure doing an impressive balancing act with a toddler on her hip caused Artemis to pause.“Carmen?” Artemis mused aloud believing she had recognized the woman.Carmen was a few years older than Artemis, but they had worked at the same hospital in the states. They were a little more than acquaintances, but had always been too busy to become real friends. It was a shame considering how similar the pair was, but between Damocles and hospital shifts for Artemis and a toddler and hospital shifts for Carmen, what time was there? The few times they did have shifts together and weren’t independently running around like mad, the conversations had been good.Focusing once again on crossing the street, Artemis checked both ways but kept the woman in peripheral view and quickly crossed.Of course, the brunette had turned and walked the other way forcing Artemis to run after her slightly to catch up. She hoped it was her friend, otherwise this would be awkward.“Carmen?” she repeated, this time within earshot.”

A gush of cold wind rolled over them, causing her to use her scarf to wrap up her daughter closer to her chest. She looked down at her rosy cheeks and her little button nose that was turning a shade of red. She had to find this place soon or else she would have to give up soon to get her daughter back home to get warm. Thankfully her daughter did not fight her too much and actually wanted to get snuggled up to her for warmth. She shifted her weight a bit to get more comfortable as she held her growing baby.
"Maybe it this way?" She asked out loud.
Her legs carrying them both along the cobblestone before she went to round a corner, suddenly stopping when she thought she heard her name being called. She glanced around before looking over her shoulder when she noticed a figure jogging up towards them. Her brow furrowing as she tried to get a look at the women's face, before her tired eyes grew wide in surprise.
"Artemis...?"
She turned towards the woman as her face light up, completely taken back by the familiar face. What was she doing here? she has not seen this women in months now, remember that she had left the hospital. Was this where she went? What a small world we live in. It was certainly a pleasant surprise.
Heavens to betsy, Artemis Scamander, as I live and breath." She exclaimed before closing the gap between them to pull her into a one arm hug. When they parted, she took a moment to look over the women she has not seen in months.
"You look great darling, how have you been?" she then paused before asking the major question plaguing her mind, "What are you doing here?!" she added with a giggled, Jazzy suddenly quiet as she looked over at the women that her mother was talking with, looking a bit bashful.
Another gush of bone chilling wind blew pass them, causing her clothes and air to tussle a bit. Her eyes taking in her surroundings, noticing the small cafe that sat up the street. She had to get Jazzy somewhere warm and they could use the coffee or tea to catch up."Hey sweet pea, how about we get out of this cold and get something warm to drink"she offered, hiking her thumb at the building

Lost and Wondering It's a new dawn - it's a new day - It's a new life for me And I'm feeling good 410 words Mood: Adventurous “ It was Carmen! What on earth was she doing in England? “Oh my God I can’t believe you’re here! What on earth are you doing in England?” she asked her thoughts spilling into words in her excitement at the same time Carmen asked essentially the same question. Artemis laughed at the coincidence. At least Artemis was from the UK, but Carmen was a fish out of water, and somewhat looked like it – an adorable fish out of water with a smaller fish attached. It was clear that Carmen wasn’t accustomed to the brutal gusts of wind and cold that Artemis had grown up with. And due to the pacing motion Carmen had made Artemis could guess that she had no idea where she was going. Simply put the girl looked lost. It was a fortunate coincidence then that Artemis had run into her. It was also fortunate for Artemis who didn’t exactly have a ton of friends in her hometown. Yes, she was from the area, but she had left several years ago and her friends from school had all seemingly moved on into different areas of their lives. Not that Artemis was exceedingly social at school either. Perhaps she should have been sorted into Ravenclaw like her sister Flora, that would have made sense given how much Artemis studied, but then the sorting hat knew better than her. Artemis was still figuring herself out. Running into a familiar face that wasn’t a Scamander was actually pretty refreshing and heartwarming. By the looks of Carmen’s uncertainty, Artemis didn’t have to be an auror to deduce that Carmen was alone. In that moment they were bonded by their solidarity and solitude. It was also endearing to hear Carmen’s southern drawl. While she had missed the sound of proper English and it was refreshing not being the odd one out in conversations, or being hit on because she was English, hearing Carmen speak was a comforting reminder of her time in the States. The wind was familiar to Artemis who wasn’t phased by the cold, but was phased by seeing the toddler’s nose redden. She had the same thought. “Yes, let’s get that baby out of the cold. Come on I’ll buy you a cuppa and we can catch up.”
Artemis led the way. She had been to the café before, they had a decent assortment of pastries and of course proper tea, and for the American tourists offered coffee as well. ”

“Oh my God I can’t believe you’re here! What on earth are you doing in England?”
It would seem that they both had the same question for each other, which caused her to let out a small laugh. If she thought hard enough about it, she would figure based on the slight accent Artemis had that the woman must have originally lived here, maybe even this town. Whatever the case may be, it was a pleasant surprise and truly a blessing to see the woman, because Carmen was internally struggling. With everything that happened back home, and the sudden move that she convinced herself was a good idea, she was barely holding it together. Seeing Artemis and spending time with her would a good distraction, and if she was lucky she would get some help finding this place.
“Yes, let’s get that baby out of the cold. Come on I’ll buy you a cuppa and we can catch up.”
Carmen gave her a grateful smile before being lead across the street towards the cafe, bouncing her little girl along the way just so she could hear her giggle. Once they were inside, they were greeted by the warmth and a few workers throughout the cafe. They were lead to a booth off in the corner, Carmen putting Jazzy down so that she could stomp over towards the seat by the wall and carefully sat down. Carmen seized the moment to take a gander at the interior of the shop, it was quaint. She slide in beside her daughter before reaching into her enchanted purse, elbow deep as she rummaged for something. First came a coloring book then she hand to used her want to summon the crayons to go with it because she did not feel like digging everything out.
Once Jazzy had something to keep her entertained for five minutes, she turned her attention back to the blonde across from her. "You have no idea how nice it is to see you honey" she beamed, though she still looked a little bit run down. Her eyes look sunken because of the dark circles, and her eyes no longer held that spark like it once did. "How are things? She figured it was a good question to get the conversation rolling.
