Annabelle set her knife and fork down, dabbing the corners of her mouth, already knowing they were pristine as she'd barely taken a bite. The gentleman talking about the yeti seemed to believe that they would all buy into his tale. Annabelle was willing to bet he'd never loft the sodding Kingdom, let alone travelled far enough to encounter a yeti, still most people laughed and Annabelle believe the man fortunate enough in life to have such good looks that she did not need to offer false flattery with an insincere laugh, instead she looked at Lyra who excused herself. Annabelle reached for her glass, intending to follow Lyra after a little more champagne, but first she had a little glance around the room from her seat to see if there were any eligible bachelors worth getting to know.

I would kill the whole bloody lot of them until you and I are the only two people left in this world
Amy didn’t actually care about...whatever the hell it was they were celebrating. Or was it raising money for someone? A disease perhaps? He really hadn’t paid much attention. His parents had received the invitation but as daddy was feeling under the weather and mummy couldn’t be fucked with entertaining herself for the evening, Amycus had been given the tickets and instructed to bring a date. He did just that, in a manner of speaking, though outwardly they’d have to play platonic seeing as she was engaged to another bloke. Oh, and there was that whole thing about them being siblings. Amycus had left Alecto at the table in favor of chatting up an junior executive he recognized from his office, hoping to get in good with the higher ups and perhaps even work himself into a friendship with the Lestranges. He had yet to see Rodolphus or Rabastan at this event, but there were loads of people, so there was still the chance he might come across them. In the meantime, he would entertain himself by lying through his teeth to this bloke who worked several floors above him, and secretly picturing all the discrete places around the Ambrosia he could have his way with Alecto tonight.

Who gave a fuck if his story was mostly bullshit? No one at this table, and that was what mattered. He had gone mountain climbing, so that bit was true, but he had no such luck to have actually seen a yeti. Sure, he could have told about the bear the group had seen, but it had been far off and nothing exciting had come from it. Felix preferred to have real adventures of his own, but they were never as exciting as the shit he could make up to entertain himself and a table full of witches and wizards while getting pissed.

A girl should be two things classy and fabulous
Neatly signing her name next to several large numbers, Lyra was enjoying potentially spending money of absurd things no one really needed but everyone wanted. A lovers cooking lesson? 50 galleons, because why not. A weekend trip for two to Paris? 100 galleons. She had the money to spend and the chances she would be outbid before the evening ended were pretty damn high, so it really was a win-win situation. A flash bulb went off and Lyra glanced up from the auction sheet she was signing her name to (a night at the Russian ballet) and saw paparazzo pointing a camera at her. "If you're not going to respect my privacy," she said lightly, "then at least be sure your readers know about this very important cause. Are you putting in details so your readers can donate?" She repositioned herself into a more aesthetically pleasing pose for the camera as she finished writing in her bid, not bothering to listen whether some poor blokes reading the Sunday paper on the toilet tomorrow would know where to send their measly knuts. So long as her picture was in the paper and she made a good impression, that was really what tonight was all about. And catching up with friends, of course, though she hadn't bothered to check in with Anna in a while.
