There was nowhere to go but everywhere
The nice thing about working at a restaurant were the hours. Her shifts as the head chef were pretty regular and the restaurant closed at ten which meant she was done by eleven, sometimes earlier, which left plenty of time to go out and have fun. She even was able to get a respectable amount of sleep most nights, even after working a full dinner shift and hitting a pub or billiards club. Tonight, as Katya said farewell to her colleagues, her mind was on one thing; Karaoke. She had mentioned it to a few local friends and extended an open invitation but there were no hard plans made and she would be plenty happy singing on her own and making new friends at the pub should no one else make it out. She did like to chat with people, ask about their life and possibly get an idea of her next big adventure but sadly most of the people she’d spoken with were a little of the dull side. One witch thought her trip to southern England to visit her sister for the weekend was cause for fanfare and another bloke only had a list of bands he’d seen in concert to talk about. Katya enjoyed going to concerts as well but when asked about the most amazing parts of her life thus far, she wouldn’t be talking about the time she saw Deep Purple live.
There were plenty of places that did karaoke around London. Katya had visited several of them and while she always had a pretty good time, the muggle places couldn’t compare to Nakamura’s in Whimsic Alley. Whimsic didn’t get Kat’s money much during the day, it was rather posh and not at all Kat’s speed but at night it was practically a different place. Bars and clubs and strip joints. She’d gone to the Gentleman’s Club a few times with friends and even made friends with some of the dancers. Her favorite place was the dive bar at the end of the alley, Rellik, though the Chinese food place had an excellent habit of staying open late and they had a bar which put Shangri-la in a tight second because it was hard to beat beer and eggrolls. Maybe she’d stop by there on the way home tonight, but more than likely she was going to get an enormous plate of nachos that she had no hope of finishing by herself and have a couple beers while she made eardrums bleed belting out Rock and Roll All Night from the stage.
“Privyet, Hiro! How are you tonight?” Katya greeted the bartender warmly as she stepped inside the building and approached the man. “Can’t complain,” Hiro answered. “How about you?” “I’ll be better after a beer and a song,” she said cheekily before quickly adding “whatever’s coldest.” She wasn’t overly picky about what she drank and she preferred a bottle over a glass simply for the fact that there was a smaller opening through which to spill it. She wasn’t clumsy by any means but she did like to dance and at least once a night her beer would accompany her to the microphone while she was singing, so it was just best to play it safe. Hiro returned with a dark bottle and popped the cap off in front of her before sliding it across the bar. “Thanks,” she said before taking a sip and turning to inspect the crowd. It looked to be a fun bunch tonight. “I’ll be back,” she said to the bartender, taking her beer and hopping off the barstool with a quick wave. “Gonna put my name in.”
She made her way to the corner of the room where a little table was set up like a sort of DJ booth. The MC waved at her and handed her a quill and a slip of parchment to write her song choice on. “You don’t need the book, do you?” he asked, just as he always did. “Does this look like my first dragon fight?” she asked rhetorically and scribbled out the name and artist of the song she wanted. There were already several people ahead of her and when the MC called her name she’d already started on a second beer. Since her friends hadn’t shown up to keep watch over her drink, her fresh bottle made it’s musical debut for a little KISS number.

Friday nights were usually the ones where the youth would go out and enjoy their free time. With the work week over they could let loose and have fun. Mimette was amongst those that had a nine to five job, Monday to Friday, but her other job, her most important one, meant that she was on call all day every day and every hour of the night. This evening Mimi had spent her time with the Dark Lord, he spoke and she listened, she weighed in with a little advice, a little perspective every now and then when he believed her input could be of use but it wasn't often. The Dark Lord was an intelligent man and it was almost as if he could foresee everything ahead of time. Mimi's position at the Ministry of Magic was one of use and she was able to exploit said position once more in favour of supplying the Dark Lord with critical information. Outside of that, once her master had dismissed her, she had no plans. The Dark Lord had not requested her company outside of business and so she thought of Katya and her informal invite to Karaoke tonight. It was a good idea to keep up with the people she would consider friends in her nine to five day life.
Entering the Karaoke bar Mimi could hear the familiar tones of Katya singing down the mic. Her accent wasn't nearly as obvious when she was singing but it was still most certainly there. Mimi made her way to the bar and ordered herself a drink, bouncing along to Katya's rendition of the catchy KISS number. It was perfect for Karaoke and for Katya. It was a most suitable song for the evening and Mimi was looking forward to getting up on the stage alongside Katya and singing her heart out, "And a book, please." She smiled kindly at the bar tender that brought her drink on over, a very big glass that was certainly not the standard serving in most pubs but Mimi wasn't going to complain about getting more grog for her galleon. The bartender pulled out a book from under the counter, one of many floating around the place, and as Katya sung her song, Mimi sipped took a few mouthfuls of her beer and scanned the pages of the book one by one, trying to decide what song she was up for to kick off her evening.

There was nowhere to go but everywhere
“I wanna rock and roll all night. And party every day.” The crowd was singing along as Katya belted the lyrics into the mic, her beer bottle raised into the air and her head bobbing along to the beat. The music faded out but Katya’s voice didn’t soften with it. Instead, she put on her best Gene Simmons impression and shouted away from the mic “Thank you London!” sticking her tongue out to mimic the rock star. She took a dramatic bow, keeping her bottle upright as to not waste any beer on the floor of the stage – a mistake she only needed to make once. The crowd clapped loudly, and Katya grinned as she slid the microphone back into its stand and then hopped off the stage with a little bounce.
Weaving her way through the crowd back up to the bar was easy enough. The place was crowded but well organized, with a vibe that Katya really enjoyed. She’d come here often since discovering it, and she made friends with the staff well enough that they all knew each other by name and had a few inside jokes with one another. Hiro had teased her that she ought to take the job of head chef for the Nakamura, who served little more than bar food, and she would wiggle her eyebrows at him and claim they couldn’t afford her. “Can I get another, Hiro?” she asked from the far side of the bar, shaking her nearly empty bottle at him then swigging the remainder. “Mimyette!” A friendly face at the other end of the bar had caught Katya’s eye and she happily shouted the woman’s name in her thick accent, raising her hands into the air excitedly. Leaving her now empty beer bottle on the bar, Katya slid through a few good looking blokes – and a few not-so-good looking ones, and made her way to where Mimi was sitting. “You came! Otlichno!” She leaned into the small space between Mimi and the wizard sitting at the bar next to her. “What are you going to be singing first? Have you decided?”

Mimi was at the bar, drinking away while she looked through the book, bobbing along to Katya's singing. Katya's singing wasn't half bad. Most of the people that came through the Karaoke bar were awful really, but it was fun to let your inner performer out so people only ever encouraged one another. Mimi's inner performer preferred the stage of the world, her work being plastered all over the front of newspapers, highlighting the terror she caused, but karaoke was a second best and would certainly do for this evening. Mimi needed to spend more time socialising with her friends too, she had to appear as if everything in her everyday life was going on as normal. She needed to be able to share her boring life experiences with her work colleagues, chat over the water cooler about what had happened over the weekend or what she'd been up to. She didn't really work with anyone closely but she met a lot of different people from a lot of different departments and usually took her breaks at the same time as a few other staff that she'd gotten to know relatively well over the many years she'd been at the ministry.
Katya's song came to an end and Mimi cheered loudly, clapping and hollering her approval at her friend's effort on the stage. Mimi watched the small framed witch squeeze easily through the crowd and make her way to the bar where she placed an order for another drink. You could not be without a drink in this place, it was practically the standard! "Hello, Katya!" She chuckled, the witch having called her name through the bar. It was good to see her for she was always a very kind and welcoming person, Mimi thought, someone she would have gotten along with very well had they attended Hogwarts together. "It's been so long, I couldn't say no!" She giggled a little and looked down to the book with a shrug and picked up her glass, "I'm not sure yet, feeling a little nervous, this is quite the crowd." She said, looking out at everyone that was there on a Friday night, "Fancy a duet?" She asked. Mimi took a sip of her beer and then placed the glass down on the table, turning to the back of the book where the duets were listed. She very much doubted Katya would say 'no' to more stage time.

There was nowhere to go but everywhere
Only one beer in, Katya wasn’t feeling the effects of the alcohol just yet, but the adrenaline from the crowd was pumping through her, giving her a fun energy. Seeing a friendly face only added to it. Hiro, the bartender, passed her a fresh beer at her new spot at the bar near Mimi and she smiled broadly at him before turning back to Mimi who was debating her options. “They are happy crowd, though!” They really were. Since coming of age, Katya had frequented places like this wherever she travelled. Aside from Stu’s in lower New Jersey on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Nakamura’s was the best place for a jaunty atmosphere and good spirits. If she were to make a Must Visit list from all the places she’d been around the world, this place would definitely make the top ten. “But, if you need a duet to get you started, I could probably be swayed.” It wouldn’t be a difficult task by any means. She took a swig from her new bottle of beer and nodded her head in the direction of the song book. “Any ideas for songs, then?” Katya preferred rock and roll, something easy to bounce around to that would get your blood pumping but if pressed, she could manage a ballad or even something a little country.

A happy crowd was still a crowd, although starting with a duet would certainly help get Mimi in the mood for singing in front of such a large audience. She didn't mind a little sing song but it was hard getting out on the stage for the first time of the evening when the place was packed. If there were a few empty tables here and there then it wouldn't have been a problem, but Mimi wasn't quite as confident in her voice as Katya. She was a ballsy woman and Mimi liked that. It made being around her bearable compared to other people who Mimi had to resist the urges to maim and kill. Luckily Katya was actually good fun. "How would you feel about Blondie, One Way or Another?" She asked with a smirk. It was a fun and bouncy song and if Mimi screwed it up, it wouldn't matter because the song itself was so fun and catchy that everyone would be singing along. No one could resist a good jiggle to Blondie, especially wit a couple of cuties like themselves up on stage. Mimi took a mouthful of her drink, gulping it down for a little liquid courage.
