What could possibly more cheerful at this time of year, the holiday season, than to have to check in with Ministry to make sure you were behaving yourself? Of course this wasn't a treatment a lot of people had to go through, this was something that just a few people, singled out for an illness, were subjected to. Cora was a werewolf, she was bitten when she was out celebrating one night, and because of that, she was now subject to the Ministry. She had to jump through hoop after hoop, act like she was a performing monkey, just to try and exist peacefully in the world, and not even her own world at that, she couldn't bear the idea that someone might find out what she was and so she had to live her life, mostly, in the muggle world. She had to work there and live there or else she was subjected to too many of the wizarding worlds laws. She was sick and tired of it but it was her reality, it was the life she had to live in order to be as close to normal as possible. If it hadn't of been for her sisters then she would have been completely shut off from the wizarding world. Apart from these pesky invasions of privacy of course.
The trip to London was simple. She just apparated close to the Ministry and then made her way to the red phone box that was always overlooked by any stray muggle that happened to stumble this way. She typed in the code needed to trigger a response from the other side, said what she needed into the receiver, a muggle habit she’d picked up on. She was issued a badge and she didn’t even look at it, knowing it would be the same as all the others she’d had before, so she just clipped it on to her top and pulled her cloak over it as she was lowered through to the Ministry. After about a minute of waiting the doors opened and Cora stepped out into the Atrium. There were always a lot of people and Cora paid them no attention. The less she could draw to herself, the better. She preferred to just get on with her business and get on out, but there was a relatively small crowd that caught her eye as she walked on by but she didn’t intend to stop to find out their cause. She had twenty minutes until her appointment but she’d spend it waiting quietly, reading a book, hoping they’d call her in early so she could just leave. The Ministry of Magic was quite an intimidating place when you were there to be judged over something you had no control of. Cora made sure to keep her name tag, with the purpose of her visit upon it, hidden from view with her ordinary black cloak, and she tried carefully not to get in anyone's way as she went but with the Atrium busy, it was easier said than done.

Stand up for something even if you're standing alone
“Werewolf rights are human rights! Werewolf rights are human rights!” The chanting might have been more compelling if their numbers were greater, but they were making a disturbance and that was definitely a step in the right direction. Darcy stood underneath a banner held by two other witches that read ‘WWWAR is coming!’ the lettering then flashed and the banner now said ‘Witches, Wizards, and Werewolves Against the Registration’. The protest group had been there for two days now, fighting for politicians to take notice of their cause. The werewolf registration was completely unjust, stigmatizing people who, in most cases, were complete innocents to their illness. Forcing victims of lycanthropy to check in with the government every month was not only a violation of their wizarding rights, but also impeded their ability to go about their lives as normally as possible. Imagine, you finally find a job that that would overlook the stereotypes of your disease only to have to take time off work every month to go into London and sit in a busy Ministry building, missing paid work and putting a strain on your reputation as a hard-working employee. And that was only for the lucky ones. Most werewolves couldn’t get a steady job to begin with, ending up turning to illegal means of profit. Forced criminality! It was inhumane and WWWAR was going to make sure their few but mighty voices were heard.
Darcy had a clipboard in her hands as she chanted along with her fellow WWWAR advocates, her free hand thrust into the air as a group of finely dress business wizards walked passed. “End the registration! Sign our petition for werewolf rights!” The men hurried passed them, waving Darcy off but she was not deterred. “Please, sir, sign our petition. The werewolf registration is harmful to innocent werewolves just trying to-” She was shut down as the man ignored her and walked faster, leaving her alone. “You’re blessed with anonymity!” she shouted at the man’s back. “Lycans deserve the same, you wanker!” She was getting heated now. There were only six names on her petition board, one of which was her own in the hopes of getting the ball rolling. A cute brunette in a blue top caught Darcy’s eye as she walked swiftly by, avoiding eye contact. “Miss, people with lycanthropy are being unfairly targeted by this administration’s racist policies. Sign our petition to end the registration?” Darcy trotted after the woman, extending her clipboard and quill toward the witch as she walked by.

There was quite the fuss being made in the atrium, and while there weren't many people in the group causing the ruckus, there was quite a sound being made. Their voices carried far and bounced from the walls, giving them the illusion that they had more of a following than they actually had. Cora didn't care how many of them there were, all she wanted to do was get by and head on up to wait for her appointment time. She had enough on her mind without worrying about some protest for something that was probably none of her business getting involved with. She was happy to just carry on as she was, pleasing the system so that she wasn't forced to endure any unjust actions from the ministry. This new acting minister, while only acting Minister, seemed to be coming down harshly in the interests of the magical world, trying to keep all these threats away while he was in office, yet Cora didn't think of herself as a threat, not usually at least. She was actually a pretty upstanding citizen who was in an unfortunate situation. She wasn't aware of many werewolves, she knew of Julian and that was it, so she wasn't sure if their inner wolves affected them much, but she couldn't imagine that everyone that was a werewolf was a danger or threat. She'd really tried avoiding everything werewolf related so she could just go about living her life, she didn't need to know what others were like, they could be far more aggressive than she.
A woman trotted up alongside Cora, talk about rights for werewolves. Cora stopped, her breath catching. Werewolves? This whole thing was about drawing attention to, and focusing on werewolves? That was the last thing Cora wanted and she couldn't imagine many people with the same condition as she would want all this attention brought to their lives, after all they were ostracised enough without someone who thought they were helping in all actuality making life much, much worse for the likes of people with Lycanthropy. What was she supposed to do? "Uh," She'd just feel rude if she ignored the woman but at the same time she couldn't sign this, the ministry would find out and who knew what she'd be in for after that. Would they just let her carry on with her life? Probably not! They'd make it even harder for her to exist in the world, push her and people like her in farther away.

Stand up for something even if you're standing alone
The cute brunette hadn’t agreed to sign, but she’d also not said no. In fact, she’d even stopped walking, which was far more than the vast majority of people Darcy had spoken with today. It was a good sign and Darcy was enthused. It was natural to be hesitant, as was clear this woman was, but Darcy felt she had a duty to help anyone belittled or beleaguered simply for trying to live their life within circumstances beyond their control. She was privileged in so many ways she hadn’t recognized when she was younger and she wanted to ensure that privilege could result in additional privileges for others who were not blessed in society’s eyes just because she had been born in the right place and time or never happened across the wrong people in her life through no fault of her own.
“The Minister and this administration are targeting lycans, subjecting them to unfair and biased policies that most of us are blessed enough to never feel the weight of, but everyone deserves to be treated with respect and equality. All we’re asking is for your signature to show the Minister that the majority of Britain’s wizarding citizens are not in support of his policies regarding lycans. He’s using smear campaigns and lies to scare Britain into thinking lycans are dangerous to society, completely disregarding the vast research that proves his statements false. Please consider signing here, to show the Ministry that we will not fall for their lies.” It was a mouthful to be certain, but rarely had anyone stopped long enough for Darcy to get a word in edge-wise. She became a little overzealous. It didn’t help that the woman was far too attractive to be talking with anyone on Darcy’s level, and she might have been a little flustered given the circumstances.

This was terribly awkward. Cora didn't have the nerves to just walk away but she couldn't sign that petition. There was probably something that prevented you from signing with a fake name and so she was at a loss of what to do. The woman that had stopped her went off talking about things Cora was already well aware of. To her it was all old news but it was refreshing to hear it being spoken of out loud and not in hushed whispers or inside the safety of a closed room. This was the Ministry of Magic, a very public forum and here these people were, talking about a subject that greatly affected Cora and yet one she had a fear of speaking about. Something she hid as far down as was possible to the point that what? It was preventing her from signing some petition that would give her more equal rights? A petition that would probably just be dismissed and ignored? Cora was well aware that she was what one might call a coward but this life imposed on her wasn't an easy one and as much as she truly wished she could sign, she wasn't wanting to make her life more complicated.
"I've never met someone so passionate about werewolf rights," She said as she looked over the form, a small hint of a smile on the corner of her lips. There weren't many signatures but Cora appreciated each and every one that was there. "But I don't think I can sign, not today." She told the enthusiastic witch, "I'm sorry." She stepped to the side, knowing deep down it felt wrong to walk away but it was the safest option to keep her life as fuss-free as possible. The was no doubt in Cora's mind that her sisters would sign the form without hesitation, but for a werewolf to actually sign it could mean so much trouble and Cora didn't want to bring that down upon herself or her sisters. They lived with her, they helped her out in so many ways that she couldn't bring that kind of trouble to their door. "Have a good day." She said, sounding apologetic, "I hope you get more signatures." And off she went, walking towards the lifts, hoping to get a good spot to sit and read while she waited for her appointment time to creep closer and closer.
