[attr="class","red-fat"] [attr="class","red-inner"] [attr="class","red-rib"] [attr="class","red-out"] [attr="class","red-txt"] It did come as quite a surprise for Veronica when her mentor of sorts, Augusta Longbottom had accepted her invitation for evening tea. It had been a long time since she last saw the elder witch and though they did see each other from time to time in the parties and run-ins at the ministry of didn't count. A casual time between the two was never an option given their busy schedules, but nevertheless she was happy to know that Augusta accepted the invitation to visit her at her apartment. And she was actually waiting for a chance to talk freely without having people try and eavesdrop on their conversations. [Break][break] Shaking her head mentally upon looking at the time, Veronica began to dress up for the evening tea in her loving room. After her graduation she had opted to move into the newly constructed Oakridge Apartments, an elegant and simple home for her and perhaps her future family. But at times she missed the grandeur of her family manor, not that she would admit it out loud. After ordering Shell, her house elf to prepare some light snacks to go with the tea, she began to try on a few dresses she had and was very much engrossed in that task that she failed to notice the time, until her elf reminded her that only an hour was left. That was when Ver quickly chose a dark forest green color dress with half sleeves which ended at her knees, showing off her slender legs. Her dress was snugly fit and she had taken her time to admire herself in the mirror and smirked at the fact that she got a chance to finally wear the dress she bought last month. And she hoped that Augusta would not mind her sense of fashion. Putting on some light make up and tying her hair into a loose knot at the nape of her neck, with a few strands framing her face. [Break][break] Veronica made her way to the kitchen and was met with a smile from her elf which was totally unexpected, and thus she returned it back as she walked towards the tiny creature who was busy making some cookies. Her kitchen was filled with the smell of cinnamon reminding her of McLaggen manor. Smoothing her hand over her dress, she picked up the biscuits and cookies tray and set it out on her dining room all the while staring at the fireplace. There was still some more time left for the elder witch to step in her house, but being who she was Ver was very much fretting about it all. After all she was quite unsure of how the evening would turn out to be for them. While everyone would assume that she was among those with who Augusta talks to freely, Ver on the other hand feels as though she was a student of lady Longbottom. And now that she thought of it, how would she address the elder witch as ? Would she continue to call her as Mrs. Longbottom as she does in their letters or would she call her as Lady Longbottom as she does in the ministry? Merlin knows how confused she was about this whole thing. [break][break] TAG : @augusta [Break] WORDS : 500+ [BREAK] OUTFIT : The Dress[Break] NOTES : Hope this is okay?! Of course Augusta would never have dreamed of turning down an invitation for afternoon tea. Any invitation was welcome for the ageing witch, who often felt that she didn't get out nearly as much as she ought to, and to refuse would have been rude in any case unless she had had a prior engagement, which was unlikely these days- unless it was an emergency meeting at the Ministry, which was always possible.
But this was an invitation from Veronica, and there was no chance at all that Augusta was going to turn that down. Although she would never have admitted it, the senior Ministry official had something of a soft spot for the young hit-witch. She enjoyed her company- she found it refreshing- and she also knew that there was a great deal that she could do for her. That they could do for each other. Generally, Augusta spent most of her time in the company of politicians who were in the habit of using three times as many words as strictly necessary in order to express themselves, and the majority of that time, she used in trying to work out what the hell they were on about. With Veronica, however, she knew exactly what the girl was on about. It was fun. And fun was something which Augusta didn't have as much of these days as had once been the case. The evidence was written on her face, plain for all to see.
That was another reason why she enjoyed spending time with Veronica- it reminded her of the beauty that she had lost, and it reminded her that there were still those who possessed such a thing, which was important. A world without beauty was no world at all, which was why Augusta was so worried about the antics of the Death Eaters, and even more worried about the inaction of her immediate superior. She'd held her position for a long time- she'd seen Ministers come and go- but she'd never seen one like her current Minister before, and she honestly could not tell whether that was a good thing or a total disaster waiting to happen. Right now, she could go either way.
Arriving at the younger witch's home, the woman eyed up her surroundings appraisingly, then shrugged to herself and rang the bell. It wasn't the most salubrious environment in the world, but then again, neither was her own home, she supposed. Everything was a matter of taste, and you really couldn't tell what you were going to find unless you got inside. She'd been into the most squalid-looking of apartment buildings and found little oases of art and culture, and then she'd been inside the grandest and most opulent of manor houses and found a complete travesty. Her own home, she liked to think, was halfway in between.
Afternoon tea was something which she hadn't had in quite some time. It was a dying tradition, except of course amongst those like the Blacks and the Malfoys, and Augusta was quite looking forward to it.

Sometimes Veronica wondered why there wasn't a subject called as etiquette while at school. Because as she stood in her apartment Veronica all but hoped to have an idea as to how things were usually done. While she couldn't care less about all of this had it been anyone, given that the guest was Augusta she really needed help. And she knew that her mother wouldn't be of much help given that she would first chose to chew Veronica's ear off for not listening to her in the first place. And it was not something she was looking forward to. But then again how would a girl of 7 or 8 realize the importance of all the etiquette classes she was forced to sit through. For Ver it was a chance to sleep and skip the class. But little did she know that there would be a day when she herself would want to listen to all those boring things. [Break][break] Lost in her thoughts Veronica had missed the door bell ringing until Shell poked her bringing her back to her senses and enough time to collect herself. She followed on with a baited breath as her elf opened the door and Veronica smiled at the elder witch. Stepping forward she placed a kiss on her cheek and said "Thank you for taking the time Mrs Longbottom." Gesturing the elder witch to step inside be she spoke up "welcome to my place, it's not very much but guess it'll suffice for me" and grinned. She was among those females who had taken to do a job and not to mention that she had even moved out of her parents house. While witches were concerned about whom to marry, were to marry, how to plan their wedding and such, Veronica on the other hand was the witch to check the hit-list and make plans to hunt down her target. Her life was pretty different than what her parents would've wanted, but she knew that they were proud of her nevertheless. And in the end that was what mattered to her. "Please make yourselves comfortable as she pointed towards the beige couches she had in her living room. "How have you been lately Mrs Longbottom? It feels like ages since I have last talked to you" said Veronica with a polite smile. Now that she was in the presence of the elder witch she was sure that the conversation would go on with. At least that's what Ver hoped. But then again it was Augusta she was talking to. The elder witch always had her way in making her feel comfortable.

Nodding down at the elf as she stepped into the house, Augusta shook her head briskly. "It's quite all right, my dear girl, don't mention it. Thank you for putting up with me- I'll do my best not to be too intolerable." The witch was well aware that a number of her esteemed Ministerial colleagues groaned and pretended not to be there when they heard that she was coming down the corridor, and she was quite happy with such a state of affairs. One couldn't please everyone, after all, and so long as the people doing the groaning were the kind of people whom she cordially disliked, then that was all to the better. Now, if it had been Veronica groaning as she came down the corridor then Augusta would have known that she was doing something wrong. She did respect the younger witch's opinion, which was a great deal more than she could say for a vast number of her aged and experienced colleagues. Because she knew that Veronica had her head screwed on straight, whereas the majority of the more senior Ministry personnel seemed to live in a world of their own which bore no relationship whatsoever to the reality inhabited by the majority of the population. And that was dangerous. It led to people making decisions based on an incomplete understanding of the real world, which meant in turn that ordinary people living their ordinary lives were quite likely to get hurt. Augusta was not at all happy with such a state of affairs, and she was doing all that she could to avert disaster, but one woman could only do so much.
"It's lovely," she insisted, entering the room and taking a seat as she was directed. "Now, what would be the point in you living in a fifteen-acre manor house as most people seem to expect? You'd never use half the rooms; it would just be more cleaning." Augusta liked to think that she was in touch with how the magical community thought. Whether or not that was truly possible from a woman who lived in an ancestral home along with a few house elves was a matter of opinion, but she did her best. Certainly, she felt far more at home walking down Diagon Alley than she did at a society ball, but then that was partly because she was well aware that she no longer cut quite the figure that she once had in a ballgown. But there was more to life than looks.
She shrugged at the younger woman's question. "Oh, can't complain- a few people trying to push through a bill to cut werewolf rights, but I put a stop to that. They have quite enough to put up with as it is without having to live in some kind of prison. And how about you, my dear?"

When Augusta spoke about putting up with her, Veronica found herself shaking her head and said ” I never find you as an unwelcome presence, you should know that by now Mrs Longbottom. And in fact I would go on and say that it is the opposite, I love to be in your company”. She had often found herself going to the elder witch to talk about the matters of the ministry and sometime about the new laws and sometimes to clear up her doubts on the existing laws and other times she would just drop by to bug the elder witch with the gossip in the halls. After all one should know more about who they are working with and how they are as a person to talk with them in a better way and be careful when needed. And in the ministry it was a must have quality, at least for those who want to survive and strive, and Veronica McLaggen was one such witch. She needed to be in the loop of things. [break][break] When Augusta mentioned about living in a manor, Veronica snorted in an un-lady like way as she spoke up ”well mama seems to think so, but then again she always wants to see me married and roaming around in a manor trying to supervise the cleaning and such, just like her instead of running around trying to lock up the law-breakers”. While her mother would be very supportive of her actions in front of others, when it was only the two of them, she would go on and on about how inappropriate her job was for her and how she should just quit and get settled in her life. At times Ver would be very much tempted to say yes, if only to stop her mother’s nagging but she realised that it would be very bad move on her part. And instead she just puts up with her rants and cries, but in the end the gets what she wants. ”How do you find yourself at your home? Not bored I hope?” Ver asked when she remembered that Augusta lived in the ancestral home all alone if her son had moved out after graduation. [break][break] When Augusta mentioned about the bill about the werewolf rights, she nodded as that was something she had heard even. ”Wonder how people can be so heartless to try and destroy the rights of someone else, especially of those who cannot mingle well into the socirty as it is”. Sometimes she wondered why others needed to show their dominance over the half breeds and creatures. ”it was a good thing the bill has not come to past”. When asked about her, she gave a small smile and said ” not many cases were given out this month so I was not that busy these days, which is a good sign in my opinion, though my vault would say otherwise.” She then stood up from her place and picking up the tray of the cookies from the dining table she placed it on the tea table which was in front of the couch and said ”help yourselves Mrs Longbottom, there are quite types in here, Shell went a bit overboard today I guess” and took a cookie herself and bit into it. It was a dry fruit cookie and she smiled at the taste and spoke out loud ”they are delicious Shell, I love them.” She saw her elf at the kitchen door and giving her a nod and went back inside doing Merlin only knows what. Probably putting the kettle for the tea.
