She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
“You’re not the first to tell me that,” Dora remarked with a cheeky grin and a wink in response to Clem’s announcement that she was getting flustered. Dora was getting herself a little worked up reminiscing about her flings on the tropical paradise but she had to imagine Clem was just taking the mickey out of her. Pregnant witches didn’t get randy, did they? What would they even do? How would Lucian and Clem even… Dora didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole for several reasons, the least of which was that she had no intention of purposefully imagining her friends shagging, but primarily Dora didn’t want to think about having to forgo sex for more than a week, let alone nine months. Perhaps the libido waned when the belly grew, she thought, and for Dora that would certainly be a long way off. She was thin and had plans to stay that way for as long as she could. Pregnancy or not, Dora wasn’t going to let herself go.
Her list of holiday men was rather impressive and while it might have been possible for someone else to have figured out the likely father, Dora didn’t see it happening. There was no narrowing it down any more than the list she’d rambled off to Clem. None of the men overlapped (though she wouldn’t have been opposed to that idea), but they were all quite close together and Dora’s memory was understandably fuzzy as to the exact dates and details. “I’m not sure it really matters, does it? I’ll let you think who you’d like, and we’ll say it’s so. Really the only important thing is that its pureblood, and there’s no chance it’s anything but.” What would she even do if she was able to determine who the father was? Track him down and force him to do what, exactly? It seemed more trouble than it was worth and whether there a wizard in the picture or not, Dora felt she could easily care for a baby. They were so small, it couldn’t possibly be that difficult!

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Fin was acting like a lovesick teenager and if it hadn’t been so adorable, she would have thought it sickening. It was strange to witness her best friend catch feelings for someone, and even stranger that the someone in question happened to be her cousin. Luckily, Dora could read Fin like a book and she was close enough with Jovi to have an inkling of the girl’s feelings, so Dora felt confident in pushing them together. Strangeness aside, Dora liked the idea of Fin dating her cousin. They were equally outgoing, and Fin had just the right personality to handle Jovi when she was full on. If nothing else, his father, the pompous wanker, would be pleased to see Fin with someone other than Dora. Yes, she was pregnant, but she wasn’t dead and there were plenty of eligible wizards here to catch her eye. She’d be perfectly fine on her own while Fin played Casanova.
Dora tilted her head to let Fin kiss her gently and then nodded as he played the overprotective father role that was missing from her life. There was no rest for the wicked, but if she could find Liv she’d be pleased for the company. Turning to scan the ballroom, Dora didn’t spot the brilliant blonde and so she began to wander, leaving the party room to stroll through the impeccably decorated halls. The dining room was lovely, but the company seemed dull, so she carried on through the halls, finding herself in a more secluded area than she’d intended. The home was far too big to be practical, but Dora enjoyed it, it was a far cry from the tiny studio flat she called home. Passing several closed doors, she was certain she heard people shagging behind one of them, her pace slowing just a bit to live vicariously through whomever it was on the other side of the door for only a moment before she turned and headed back toward the party.
Fin and Jovi were looking the perfect couple, dancing in the parlour with a few other pairs. The Lestranges were clearly tipsy as they laughed heartily, and Dora gave a smile to the blonde witch who was Rodolphus Lestrange’s date. She’d enjoyed their chat earlier and Dora wouldn’t have minded striking up another conversation with the woman but Rabastan’s new bride was stood at his side and while Dora adored Lilith Burke for her sophistication and class, it was evident that the feelings were not mutual, so she stayed away. A much friendlier group stood on the other side of the room and Dora clicked her way in her impossibly tall heels over to the Malfoys and a couple who had been friends of her parents. “Luscious,” Dora cooed, running her hand on his shoulder playfully as she approached. “Narcissa, that dress is stunning,” she said, turning to the woman before she got any ideas. The dress was alright, if anything it made the typically thin woman look a little plump but while Dora often put her foot in her mouth, she wasn’t so daft as to say that out loud.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Beautiful green eyes widened with amusement, a huge grin appearing on her face for only a moment before it was covered by her hands. Dora smothered a gigantic laugh, her eyes twinkling. “Fin would die!” she blurted out between laughs. “Just die! Merlin’s beard, if he heard you even suggesting he was anything less than a prized pony, he’d be done.” Dora knew a bit more about Fin’s sexual life than others but it was expected with a friendship as close as theirs. Still, there were certain things one simply had to assume, and based on the disheveled, happy but a wee bit ashamed expression on the faces of the witches who took the walk of shame from his bedroom in the mornings while Dora had lived there, she was fairly certain Fin knew his way around a lady. She was even more certain that Fin was going to get the brunt of the accusations when people tried to figure out who the father of her child was, just as his father assumed, and Clem too. Poor Uncle Fin.
Calming herself and trying to re-enter the serious conversation of her unexpected pregnancy, Dora gave a happy little sigh. “It’s one of the blokes from the island based on the maths, but I confess, there were a few. All respectable purebloods, of course, and most of them wealthy guests, but Clem,” Dora gave a longing whimper, her head falling backwards just enough that her curls fell off her shoulder, “it’s so cliché but if you had seen the cabana boys!” Grabbing her friend’s hand lightly, Dora’s head lulled forward and fell onto her outstretched arm which rested on the table between them. She was being overly dramatic, but her time spent on the island had been phenomenal and thinking on it now, she was feeling the urge to go back and do it all (them all) again.
“Names…” she said into the table, her head still down though she turned her face so that her cheek was pressed against the cool tabletop and she could look at her enormously pregnant friend in the eyes. “Olias something, he was a cabana boy. Real cute. Accent thick as your arm, no bloody clue what he was saying half the time. Then Ricardo – no, Ares was next. Ares Mor…something, Mooor….Moreau!” In her excitement of remembering the wizard’s surname she popped up from her pathetic position on the table. “He had this gorgeous hut down the beach from us, looked pretty pricey, so he had to be loaded. After Ares was Ricardo, the dance instructor. Clem! If you had seen the way this man moved on the dance floor…. I love Lucian, you know I do, but by the Gods, you would have slipped that giant sodding ring off your finger so bloody fast!” Dora continued, listing off the men she could remember from her extensive list of bed buddies while on holiday this past summer, and giving whatever details she could remember about each of them. Some she couldn’t remember their names while others she couldn’t remember how she’d met them and chalked it up to all the fruity liquor-filled drinks she’d consumed while lounging on the beach in one of her skimpy bikinis.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Clem and Loosh were to have a winter baby, and Dora a spring baby. Their children would be so close in age. Really, as troublesome as this whole endeavor might be, Dora believed the pros vastly outweighed the cons. Yes, she’d be fat for a month or two, but she wouldn’t get nearly as large as Clem! No offense to her dearest friend, but Clementine had always had more meat on her bones than Dora, so it was of very little surprise that she now looked like she’d eaten a whole horse. The wealthy brunette would obviously shed the weight without issue, but Dora still didn’t expect to look anything comparable to her by the end of the pregnancy. They could dress their babies in matching outfits and they would of course celebrate all the big milestones together; birthdays, Christmases, Bonfire Nights. It would be spectacular and Dora grinned as Clem aww’ed.
Fin’s involvement in her pregnancy was once again in question and Dora couldn’t help but roll her green eyes dramatically at her friend. “You’re like the third person to ask me that! Of course he’s not, don’t be daft. If Fin and I had shagged you would have heard about it straight away, but you will never hear such a thing.” She couldn’t help but laugh because the idea was, well, laughable. “We would make a gorgeous baby together, but I suspect this one will be plenty gorgeous all on its own. I only have the best taste in men.” She gave a little wink at her friend but couldn’t give anymore details than that. Truthfully, Dora didn’t know who the father was, but she knew for damned certain who it wasn’t and that was her best friend, Fin Avery.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Completely obtuse to any hint of concern or worry Clementine might have shown in the initial moments of the surprise, Dora beamed. They were going to be pregnant at the same time, at least for a short while, and then their children would grow up together. They would always have each other as friends, maybe more one day, and it cemented the notion that Dora wouldn’t be alone forever. She would have her baby who would love her unconditionally and never ever leave her, and now no matter how busy Clementine got with her husband and her own family there would always be a connection to Dora that would naturally be maintained. Of course, the girls would always be best friends but Dora knew from watching her parents when she was younger just how absorbed a married couple could become with themselves and she didn’t want to be forgotten for a second time. Baby besties ensured her a place in Clem’s life for at least the next seventeen years, longer if their children married.
Bouncing on the balls of her feet, Dora hugged her friend excitedly, pulling away with a little wiggle and a big grin. The questions came almost instantly, firing off rapidly and only adding to the excitement Dora was feeling. At first she’d been apprehensive about coming and about her feelings about the baby but Clem’s excitement affirmed Dora’s feelings. This was going to be amazing. “I don’t think I’ll be needing maternity clothes too soon,” she remarked, brushing her hands down the front of her outfit in a smoothing manner, subconsciously reminding herself that she was still thin and attractive, “but I certainly won’t turn down that generous offer!” Clem’s family had money and that meant her clothes were not only trendy and fashionable, but also there was a very real chance Dora would be gifted some designer pieces that cost more than she paid for her flat.
Dora pulled Clementine into a chair besides hers and then sat, trying to do the maths in her head to answer her friend’s questions. “The healer told me I was…” She turned her eyes up as she tried her best to remember how many weeks along she was but there had been an awful lot of numbers to keep track of and in all honesty Dora sort of went into a fog for a bit after the news was confirmed. Nothing nearly as intense as the night she’d taken the home test and ended up sobbing on Fin’s bed with him pinned to her all night, but certainly not completely present for all the information being thrown at her. “Oh bugger, I can’t remember. It happened on holiday this summer when Fin and I went to Bora Bora and the healer said I’m due ‘round May.”

You've not added him to your plotter yet, but Raphael Caspian Hookum is too yummy to wait for, so you're getting my plot ideas now! Rodolphus Adalrich Lestrange - Roddy's a few years older and his family seems more middle-class, so they probably weren't good friends by any means but they potentially crossed paths. Rod would think he was an alright guy, and he'd probably made fun of his surname a time or two but mostly in good fun. Maybe he got The Hook to play at one of the Lestrange family galas a time or two before they really hit it big, which could open up opportunities for more character interactions with my other purebloods if you'd like. Dorian Michael Humbert - Depending on where in the Ministry Raph worked at his short-lived desk job, these two might have crossed paths but I don't see Dorian really getting on well enough with his personality to have made any sort of lasting impact on each other. Perhaps something in the future depending on how Raph's plot line goes. Euphadora Rose Parkinson - Her father did a lot of financial work for wizarding families, and with the Hookums owning a restaurant and bakery, perhaps Heath Parkinson embezzled some of their money before his death. The Hookum brood, and other clients, would have been invited to his company's holiday parties so Dora could have met all the Hookum children when they were younger. She's the same age as the twins, and Theon would have been a year older than Will, so they probably got up to a bit of mischief as children though probably not enough ongoing contact to make a real friendship of it. The Parkinsons were working toward joining in the with upper-class elite, so publicly having middle-class friends would have been a no-no for Heath and Rebekah but at school they would be free to socialize with whomever they wanted, and Dora had friends in all houses. Raph's older than her and probably not running in similar social circles while in school so I don't know that there is a lot of history there but maybe Theon was mates with Will, the little brother to dreamy Raphael Hookum from The Hook, and if the band ever comes up in conversation she definitely mentions that fact as if it makes her cooler by extension. She wouldn't mention the fact that her deceased father stole his family's money and would go red if anyone mentioned as much (I suspect Lilith A. C. Lestrange would remind her of it from time to time, if she ever deigned to speak to Dora). Lyra Ophelia Genevieve Burke - A few years age difference, she's right between Raph and the twins so she was probably friendly with the three siblings while in school. Will and Lysander would be the same age, and are possibly friends. Lyra remembers coming back from summer holidays one year while stille in school and thinking 'when did Hookum get so bloody hot?!' They're both performers now and maybe have done some performances together. Dated casually for a few months (much to the dismay of her big brother Lucian) and released a single together before they both got bored of each other and moved on. Perhaps they relapse from time to time. She definitely has fond memories of him. Lucian Angelus Marcel Burke - They were the same year and Loosh would totally have hung out with Raph. I'd say they're good friends, still get together now and then when work lives aren't too crazy, and Raph was even asked to be one of Loosh's groomsmen. The Hook could have been their band at the wedding reception, maybe? The band members totally gets discounted elixirs from Lucian's shop, not sure how far into the sex, drugs, and rock n roll lifestyle they all are, but Loosh knows the importance of having a release. Betty and Robert Burke weren't totally sold on the idea of the boys being friends when they were younger, just because of their own social status, but they never made a fuss about it and now that Raphael is a bigshot, the friendship seems more appropriate and of less concern. Amelia Margaret Greengrass - She maybe dated/is dating his little brother, Will, but I don't see much interaction between her and Raph without someone actually playing Will to flesh out that connection. Narcissa Astrid Malfoy - Raph's the same age/year as her husband and I'm not sure what sort of relationship he and Lucius have, which will play heavily on Narcissa's connection with him. At the moment, she thinks he's too much of a man whore, but his music is good. Oliver Osiris Devereaux - Ollie knows the twins and was in the same house as Will, so there's a friendly connection to the siblings at least. He's a big fan of The Hook and goes to their concerts whenever possible. He's totally going to take Echo to one of their shows. <3 Sirius Lee Black - Sirius was mates with Will in school and totally drags Remus and Peter to see The Hook perform. (James is off being busy with Lily, lame arse)

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Waddling. Was that what Dora had to look forward to? Clem was getting gigantic but she still looked lovely. Had the witch been able to remember they had plans today, she might have fixed herself up even more but even very pregnant and comfortable at home, Clementine looked gorgeous. That bode well for Dora, who had determined thus far that the only downside to having a baby was the momentary disruption to her elegantly slender figure, but that would only be for a few months and then she’d be back to her former self and have a new little plaything to cuddle with. Mimi was going to have a little brother or sister and they would be an adorable little family.
Dora waved off the question of a new fella. There had been a fella, a few of them in fact, but their part in Dora’s life was fleeting and the news she had to share was more long-lasting than a new beau. “No, nothing like that. Well, actually...” She wasn’t sure how to segue the conversation smoothly from this point without going into all the details, some of which were still blurry to Dora herself. Folding her hands in her lap to keep the excitement in, Dora beamed at her friend, leaning close as she blurted it out. “I’m pregnant.”

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
“Here’s fine,” she answered casually, actually preferring to go out to lunch but knowing she didn’t have the funds to pay for her meal. Payday was on Thursday and then she’d have enough money to go lunching with Clem at any sensibly priced restaurant her friend might suggest, Clem being kind enough not choose something too far out of the little pauper’s price range. It was strange that Dora felt no guilt whatsoever at taking Fin’s money, abusing his credit accounts at the finest shops (within reason), and letting him pay for everything while they were together but with anyone else there was more of a need to be self-sufficient which really was a silly concept for Dora seeing as how her only means of income was a job handed to her by her best friend. Regardless, she tried not making herself too much of a nuisance, especially now that Clem was married. It wasn’t difficult to get on well with Lucian but she wanted to ensure her presence was always seen as a positive addition to company, and mooching off the Burke family was definitely not something she wanted to be known for.
The news that Baby Burke’s nursery was finished made Dora’s face light up with glee. “Yes! I absolutely need a tour! Oh, I bet it’s simply fabulous! Do you have just a million of those little booties? Their tiny little baby feet! Oh!” Dora was gushing, something she hadn’t done much before over babies, though always thinking they were rather adorable, but finding it more common now that she was going to be having a little one of her own. Her hands clapped over her chest as if her heart was going to burst from cuteness overload, Dora followed Clem into the kitchen and sat herself upon a chair at the table. Talk of decorating the guestrooms could wait, as there was so much baby talk still left to be said. “Just tea, but have the elf do it, I’ve got something to tell you.”

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Every year the fanciest of the wealthy pureblooded families would through some event and every year Dora got an invitation, though the means by which that invitation came generally varied. When her father had been alive, she, her brother, and her parents had been guests outright. After it was discovered that her daddy had embezzled his wealthy clients’ money to support his family’s luxurious lifestyle, subsequently leading to his kidnapping and ultimate death, the invitations were no longer addressed to Parkinson. That didn’t matter, however, as Dora had ties to that world and plans to regain her family’s status among the pureblood elite. No concrete plans, really, but more of a general ‘its going to happen’ ideology. Still, Dora was smart enough to know that these events were her ticket in and she happily accepted her friends’ invitations to come as their plus one, Fin’s being the most frequently offered and accepted hand out of them all. They were an attractive couple, and had they not had such a strong bond they might have had a chance as a romantic couple but Dora knew far too many of Fin’s quirks that simply couldn’t be overlooked in the bedroom, she was certain…when she was sober.
Dressed in a gorgeous gown that Clementine had given her when her own baby bump had grown too big, Dora hung on Fin’s arm and basked in all the attention the pair received. She knew there were whispers about who her baby’s father was, but the only bloke she was damn well certain wasn’t the father was the one everyone suspected. Fin would have a child the proper way and make his mum proud, maybe even earn a kind word or glance from his father, but he certainly wasn’t Dora’s baby daddy. That honor belonged to one of the handful of handsome men from her summer holiday in Bora Bora and she had no plans to try and figure out which it had been. She didn’t need a man who felt forced to be with her, not when she would soon have her own little creature who would love her unconditionally and never ever leave her. Fin would get married. Clem and Evie would spend more time with their own families. Lucius would be with his wife. Eventually it would only be these sorts of events where Dora would see her friends, but a baby would be with her forever.
After a few good twirls around the dancefloor, Dora wandered off, leaving Fin to fend for himself as she mingled with some of her father’s former friends. She put on a pleasant face and waved off questions about her mum or her pregnancy, and smiled through her teeth as she listened to people talk about her family’s fall from grace and how “brave” it was that she still managed to show her face. Finding the condescension more than enough, she wandered around once more and made friends with an older witch she’d not met before, Dorcas Something. She was Rodolphus Lestrange’s date for the evening and the talk of the party but really she was a nice enough girl.
A little more flirting with some handsome wizards and before long she was back at Fin’s side, a nursed glass of champagne in her hand. Dora smirked as her eyes followed Fin’s gaze over to her cousin, not needing to look to know who he was talking about. He was completely smitten with Jovi and while it was a shocking revelation that Dora was initially set against, she had had a bit of time to think about it since she’d first heard Fin mention her and now Dora was absolutely for it. “She’d probably adore it,” Dora said truthfully, knowing her cousin had a flare for the dramatics. “But I doubt it would go over well with the Lestranges. Or your father. Perhaps just ask her for a dance?” Dora could play defense with Jovi’s boyfriend, if need be, but she knew well enough that Jovi had no problem dancing with another bloke in front of any of her boyfriends. True to character, she’d probably revel in it and the attention it brought her. That trait definitely ran in the family.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Her visit today was planned, or at least Dora had thought it was. They’d only discussed it yesterday, hadn’t they? Clementine’s shock at seeing Dora standing in the entryway caused Dora to furrow her brow, giving a lopsided smile as she gave her head a gentle shake. “Unless I’m completely losing my marbles, we discussed lunch. But if you’re busy, I could just spend some time with that delicious husband of yours.” Dora smirked playfully at her friend, giving her a hug in return and feeling Clem’s growing belly between them. She would have one of those herself soon, though Dora hoped not too soon. She worked hard to keep a trim figure and she hated the idea that this pregnancy was going to make her fat. At least she had another three months or so before she started showing, or so she thought. “On second thought, you’re just going to have to drop whatever else you’ve got planned for the day because I miss you. I feel like I’ve hardly seen you at all since you became Mrs Lucian Burke. We need a proper catch up, I’ve got sooo much to tell you.” Dora raised her perfectly manicured eyebrows enticingly as she brushed passed Clem and headed toward the kitchen that was bigger than the entirety of Dora’s flat, to help herself to some tea since apparently cocktails were frowned upon in her condition.
Red painted nails ran along the expensive wallpaper in the hall as she walked. “My gods, this place is just lovely, Clem. I can’t get over it. I’ll bet your nursery is going to be absolutely gorgeous, too. Have you started decorating, yet?” Dora spun on her heels, continuing to head toward the kitchen as she walked backwards so that she could see her friend who was full on waddling now. “You know you want me to help.” Decorating a home was much like dressing an attractive person, Dora loved it. Her own little flat was sparse but with a color palette that brought everything together without being overwhelming. She’d helped Fin make some key designer choices when he had first bought his manor, and although the rustic cabin look wasn’t something Dora liked for herself, it was perfect for Fin and what was more, it seemed to annoy Daddy Avery for good measure, so Dora was pleased with her minor part in it. Clem didn’t really need any help in decorating, she had brilliant taste and enough money to hire a professional decorator to take care of the baby’s room but it was such fun that Dora had to make herself a part of it if she could. Even just bossing around the hired help from time to time – she so missed that.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dora wasn’t certain yet how she was feeling about her pregnancy. It had been only about a month since she’d discovered she was pregnant but already the healer said she was nearly three months along! How could she possibly be nearing her second trimester already? Fin had been wonderful about the shocking news but otherwise she had kept mum about, well, being a mum. She wasn’t showing yet and the only sign you could point to as any visual evidence was the fact that her boobs were starting to get bigger, which Dora wasn’t going to complain about. It wasn’t too noticeable, not like it would be later on, but she was finding herself readjusting her tops more often to make sure things stayed put. It was a pretty brilliant problem to have, all things considered. She knew for certain now that she was going to keep the baby, but she wasn’t sure if that was something to be happy about or not. It was strange, about to become a single mum. Dora had always pictured single mums as the product of divorce or death but to straight out the gate she was going to be raising this baby without a father and that was frightening. At least she had Fin, he was going to make an excellent uncle. A one-man support team, however, wasn’t enough and after the shock and chaos of coming to terms with her condition wore off, she realized the brilliance of her situation; she was pregnant at the same time as one of her best friends!
At Clem’s flat, Dora was accustomed to letting herself in and making herself at home. Clem could do the same when she visited Dora, though Dora’s tiny little place really wasn’t suitable for entertaining most of the time. If given the option, they would go to Clem’s or go out somewhere public. It was happening less and less now that Clem was properly married and expecting her own little one – planned and completely wanted. With Dora now in a similar boat, minus the man and the money and the mental health, this would be just one more thing for the girls to bond over. They were already so close. Clem getting married to hunky Lucian Burke did mean that some things between them had to change. Dora took more care in ensuring her visits were announced, so as not to intrude upon the couple’s private life. Growing up meant developing boundaries, so Dora had sent an owl the day prior to see if Clem was up for a visit and lunch. She was expected as she turned the knob and let herself into the large manor. “Hulloooooo! Where’s my sexy bestie?” she shouted from the entryway.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Pink painted lips curled in disgust at the idea of Anna handling rabbit dung. Even if Fin was joking darkly, which had only slimmer chance at being the case over Anna actually being a bit of a cunt and messing with her germ-sensitive brother, the mental picture of such an act made Dora queasy. It wasn’t uncommon at the moment. Since even before Dora had discovered she was pregnant she’d been having the most unbearable morning sickness. A stupid name for something that afflicted her at all hours of the day and night, not simply in the morning. She’d been to a healer to confirm what the home test had already told her, and the healer had explained that the nausea would likely last all throughout her first trimester, possibly longer. Dora didn’t think she could keep up with all the sick, and thankfully was given a potion to help soothe her sensitive stomach but it didn’t stop the unwell feelings completely, just minimized them. She was pleased that she remembered to take her potion before leaving her flat, because a whole meal with the Averys would likely involve several stomach churning instances and the last thing she wanted was to get sick in front of anyone, least of all Fin’s family.
Dora nodded as she smoothed her dress out, brushing her hands lightly over her stomach then followed Fin into the kitchen. The smells of a lovely meal hit her the moment she stepped into the kitchen, but unlike many other scents she’d encountered recently, this one was not at all offensive. “Smells wonderful,” she commented, bending over and lifting the skirt of her dress to withdraw her wand that was kept pressed against her thigh with a pretty lace garter. “Daddy A won’t be able to find anything wrong with the food, that’s for certain.” She gave Fin a playful smack on the bum as she began levitating the dishes to their proper place in the dining room.

Auditioning dance instructors for the nightclub would be fun, she thought. Not only would they need to be skilled in their profession, but there would be a certain physical requirement for a place as posh as Starlight. Dora would never let a bunch of cows turn away potential clients, on the contrary, attractive instructors would draw a bigger crowd. It was the same reason all the bartenders were impossibly good looking. Dora and the other staff were not only charged with making drinks, but also flirting and making sure people continued to return to the bar all night long. After a certain number of drinks, you could drink piss and hardly notice but if that pretty raven haired bartender smiled at you, stroked your arm, and laughed at your attempt at a joke, the possibility of getting laid would keep you going back over and over again. It would be the same technique with any staff Fin hired on, and as Dora thought about the additional business opportunity her friend was considering, her eyes drifted over to the handsome instructor on the other side of the room.
“The best time,” she answered truthfully. Were it up to Dora, she’d spend another three weeks on this island taking full advantage of the carefree lifestyle she had once been accustomed to when she was younger. The Parkinson’s holidays were never quite this lavish and Dora had barely seen the world beyond anywhere that Fin had dragged her along to, but a week of spoiled freedom was something she missed. There were no bills to worry about on the island, no catty witches to pretend to be better than, and no stressors to evoke one of her attacks. Not even once while they were on the island had Dora eve thought about cutting herself. Her episodes were fewer and farther between now that she had Mimi, but she still thought about harming herself several times a month. She hadn’t even realized until this very moment, as she sat on the refreshments table and watched the dancing and fumbling bodies on the dance floor, that she’d not had any reason to feel overwhelmed or anxious enough to need to slice her flesh open. “It’s gone too quickly,” she remarked. “I’m going to loathe leaving when the time comes.” And the time was fast approaching.

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
Dora made note of the way his lips curled as he mentioned making house calls. She would be penciling in a celebratory appointment once Johnny received his full certification, giving him much more than her congratulations. “When’s that, then?” Had it not been for the nauseated sensation she’d had all morning, or the fact that they were in a bloody veterinary clinic where sick animals came regularly and some were even put to sleep, Dora might have suggested an early celebration. It would hardly be the first time Mimi had played witness to one of Dora’s gentleman callers. It was difficult to obtain any level of privacy in her tiny little flat, unless she locked the dog in the bathroom or out on the balcony, both of which seemed cruel when Mimosa probably didn’t understand what she was looking at anyway.
Dora watched the handsome wizard work, turning away after several soiled cotton balls began piling up on the table next to Mimi. She was such a good dog, and so sociable, just like her mum, but Mimi’s stomach was made of sturdier stalk these days. After the fourth little cotton ball was set on the table, Dora felt a hot quiver rush over her body. Her back to Johnny, Dora placed a hand on her stomach and one on her chest, forcing deep breaths to sooth her stomach while attempting to remain as quiet and natural as possible. She must have caught something and was coming down with a stomach bug, because there was no other explanation for the persistence in her discomfort. Smells struck her more easily and her stomach turned at the slightest hint of anything unpleasant. Ringing Fin to bring her some soup later as she curled in her bed wasn’t a half bad idea, though she had this appointment and Johnny to worry about now. He had asked her a question, and although she wasn’t facing him she attempted to answer. “Medical problems for dogs,” she answered, feigning that she was reading a poster on the wall opposite him as her face paled. “Not a mention,” she added. “Its as if the fates simply wanted me to bring her to you.”

She was a little bit ruined a beautiful disaster but she was magic
The door opened and Dora’s easy smile tightened as she saw that it was not Fin who had answered the door, but his father. He was an attractive man, even at his age, and it bode well for Fin’s good looks that his father still had a full head of hair and the defined lines around his eyes and brow only seemed to make him look more distinguished the older he got. If only he smiled more. Real smiles, not the forced one he was giving her as he called her by her full name (such a mouthful!) in a monotonous tone that held no warmth in it. “Hello, Mr Avery,” she said, trying a charming smile on for him as he stepped backwards into the mansion and allowed her to enter. Mummy Avery was much more approachable and she cooed properly over the effort Dora had put into her appearance for the occasion. “Mrs Avery, its so lovely to see you.” Dora pulled her winter cloak off, a formality as she was wearing her patented warming charm that kept her looking fresh and cozy in short dresses all year long. Cloak in hand, Dora gave Fin’s mum a hug, catching Fin’s eye and mouthing “oh my Godric” at him as she gestured to her face, implying his mum had once again had some noticeable spellwork done. The woman looked hardly older than Dora, despite being a good twenty years her senior. Dora was a fan of beauty charms as well, but there was a limit. Looking younger than your own daughter seemed a creepy line to cross but Meredith seemed unperturbed by it. "You look amazing, yourself. This dress is stunning." Flattery went a long way with Meredith Avery.
Releasing the motherly hug Dora had unknowingly been looking forward to, she strolled over to Fin and raised herself up to give him a peck on the cheek in greeting. “Sorry I’m late,” she whispered, knowing that she actually wasn’t. The Averys were just expectedly early. Dora turned gracefully and headed toward the cloak cupboard, to hang hers up, noting two ladies’ cloaks crumpled on the floor. She hung hers on a wooden hanger, then pulled one fur lined cloak after the other and set them each to hanging properly. If Aurelius saw them as he was leaving, that would be just one more thing for him to nag Fin about, and Dora’s entire purpose here was to negative as much of that negativity as possible. She was doing a banger job of it, judging by the man’s warm greeting. “Is your sister here?” she asked Fin, looking around but not seeing Anna in the entry.
