Revelations Somehow, Dora's solution to the problem was wanting to repeat it, but on Mimi's territory, instead, where she would no doubt be ten times more confident and eager to protect herself from a threat she didn't understand. Then again, she might be slightly more comfortable in her own home, and more relaxed. Did Kit want to find out? Not really, but the look on Dora's face, hope mingled with desperation, made it hard for him to find a way to say no. Maybe he could put himself inside some sort of protective shield bubble to keep Mimi at bay. He'd have to look into it, because he was nodding his head in agreement as he chewed his bacon. "Sure," he muttered before taking another bite to avoid saying any more on the subject. He could always cancel, or make an excuse when she did invite him, he was a busy person, after all. Guilt and uneasiness swishing through his veins, he tried an egg, relieved when Dora agreed to pretend all was well and change the subject to happier things. If happier things consisted of fancy dresses and parties. It wasn't Kit's idea of happy, but he let her talk. His cheeks burned at the mention of dancing, and he shook his head and his fork at her. "Oh, no. No more drinking or dancing from me. I had the worst headache on New Years Day." He had slept in until almost noon, and then had to take a couple of different concoctions of pain potions and muggle medicine to try and get rid of the insistent throbbing in his skull and the nausea that roiled in his stomach. Kit and alcohol did not mix well, plus it tasted like crap, he had no idea how Dora had convinced him to drink so much of it. He wouldn't be repeating that just because it was her birthday. He would at least have to get her a present, though, but what did you get for someone who had a best friend that spend ridiculous amounts of galleons on her regularly? "Is there anything you'd like?" he asked. "For your birthday, I mean. I'm no Fin, but I'd like to get you something." His smile was more relaxed as he fell into conversation, almost forgetting about little Mimi on the other side of the patio doors. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson words: 413 notes: <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Revelations Kit was cringing on the inside, and it showed on his face as Dora went on, calling Mimi a bad dog more than once, which just made Kit feel horribly guilty. Mimosa was not a bad dog at all, this wasn't her fault. She was just trying to protect herself, and probably Dora, from something her senses told her was a threat. She was being a really good dog, in fact, but how could he say that without explaining why? He couldn't, and so he had to sit there and listen to the poor creature being chastised for doing nothing wrong. It was torture. Kit liked animals, he really did, and having one being treated unfairly right in front of him just killed him. And it was all his fault. He swallowed hard and picked up a glass of juice from the table, taking a sip to try and wash down the guilt. It didn't work, the juice just hit his empty stomach and gurgled around, adding to the nervous churning already going on inside of him. This morning had been a terrible idea. He'd think again before inviting Dora around for a visit. This wasn't fair on her at all. Neutral locations might have to be the way forward for them. With no pets allowed, unfortunately. Dora genuinely didn't know what happened. She didn't know how right she was, and Kit had no idea what to say to her. "Let's just have breakfast, and hopefully she will calm down," he said, glancing at the pup through the glass doors. She was still growling on the other side, but seemed to have realised that she couldn't get to him, so not to waste her energy with the whole yapping and jumping about approach she'd had before. Smart girl. She couldn't take her eyes off of Kit, though, that much was obvious, and he turned away from her, trying to ease her discomfort and stress by not making eye contact. "I, uh... Believe it or not, she's not the first animal to not like me," he admitted, trying to soothe Dora a bit more. "I must have one of those faces." More like one of those smells. The smell of a predator. Oops. He bit into a piece of bacon, stomach still churning from the lies and deception, and the drama of the morning. Kit hated drama. Dora was probably the wrong person to be around, all things considered, drama seemed to follow her wherever she went, but he felt like he was the right sort of friend for her to have, even if she was wrong for him. "So," he cleared his throat awkwardly. "How have you been?"_______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson notes: <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Sunrise
Kit was relieved when Ollie finally sat up, but he didn't move to copy him, only lay there as comfortable as can be and smiled up at his baby brother, who was trying to grump, but Kit saw right through it. Ollie in a real grump was not a person who requested fangs on his smiley pancakes, he wasn't a person who requested pancakes at all. This was not a grumpy Ollie, it was a sleepy kitten who just needed the right kind of persuasion, and maybe a tickle behind the ear to bring him around. Kit would have reached up and tickled Ollie behind the ear, cooing something antagonising at him as though he were the cutest little cat in the world, but before he got a chance, the duvet was thrown over his face as Ollie forced himself out of the bed and took himself off to the bathroom. Kit stayed there for a minute, just enjoying the quiet and the dark. Well, the relative quiet, Ollie was mumbling to himself in the bathroom, but Kit didn't bother tuning in to pick up the exact words. He was probably better off not knowing anyway.
He rolled himself off of the bed, landing in a crouch on the soft carpet, and straightening up with a stretch of his long arms over his head. Groaning with the movement, he tilted his head this way and that as he crossed the room and took himself down the hallway to the stairs. His long legs took them two at a time as he headed down to the kitchen, reaching over the counters to open up the windows and let some early morning air blast through and wake everyone up properly. He heard a soft meow and glanced across the room to see Azrael stretching, his back arched in an impossible position as he yawned, mouth opening wide as a snakes, showing off his tiny but deadly little teeth. "Morning, Azrael," he greeted the only cat in the world that had never been scared of him for being a vampire.
Azrael jumped up on the counter beside Kit and received a nose tickle in greeting. "You gonna help me cook? Hmm?" Kit asked, grabbing the ingredients he needed for pancakes and stirring up the mix in a large bowl. Azrael watched quietly at the side as Kit cooked breakfast for himself and his brother, then followed Kit to the kitchen table while Kit put their food on plates, making Ollie's pancakes into a vampire face just like he'd asked, and turning his own into some semblance of a cat. It looked nothing like a cat, but Azrael meeped his approval at his owner's efforts, regardless. "Thanks, little guy," Kit said warmly."It's nice to know someone likes my art." He sat down and lifted his chin, eyes raising to the ceiling. "Ollie!" He shouted. "Come and get it!"

Aha! A smile! It hadn't taken long for Ollie to crack, but Kit was sure the mention of pancakes had done it. Ollie seemed to perk up at the thought, and Kit couldn't help but chuckle. He flipped onto his back to get comfy while he waited for his brother to come around in his own sweet time, requesting bacon and eggs with his pancakes. "I'll even make them into little smiley faces for you," Kit laughed, teasing, though he really would if Ollie wanted it. From the age of about nine or ten, Kit had learned to cook simple things. He was aware that it was dangerous and kids his age should have been supervised, but he was an exceptionally sensible kid, and he hadn't really had any other choice. His dad had been sleeping, and save for having an overtired father cooking them all breakfast with all of the curtains closed to shroud the house in darkness so he didn't burst into flames, Kit doing it was the only option. Ollie and the girls couldn't just eat sandwiches forever, and so he had ventured into cooking. Pancakes had always been a favourite with his siblings, and Kit would make smiley faces with the food on their plates, sometimes giving them fangs to make the girls giggle. The memory always brought a smile to his face.
"You gotta get up, though," he insisted, staring at Ollie's ceiling, but only seeing the kitchen of their family home, with its dark wooden counters, tiny Roma sitting up on them to help him mix the batter and splashing it all into Kit's hair. The only thing those memories lacked was their mother, but that wasn't something he needed to delve into this morning, it would only cause pain, and he was feeling happy right now. To be fair, he could understand why Ollie wanted to stay in bed, it was really comfy, and Kit found himself sunk into the pillow so much that he didn't like the thought of moving. "If I go and make a start, will you come down?" he asked lazily, thinking that if he left the room he wouldn't see Ollie until lunch time, and he'd end up having to eat pancakes for two all by himself. He made pretty good pancakes, though, so that wouldn't be too horrible of a fate.

Revelations Within half a second of the glass doors being locked, Dora burst into a series of frantic apologies and Kit stared for a second before pulling himself together. This kind of thing was completely normal for him, it still made his heart race like nobody's business, but it happened a lot. Merlin help him if he ran into a stray dog in the street, he usually had to head to the rooftops to get away from the frenzied thing. It was a shame because he really did like animals, but it appeared that Azrael was just the only creature insane enough to like him and his family. He was sure there must be others out there, but so far, the daft black cat that was probably hiding up in his bedroom was the only one he'd come across. Dora didn't know that, though, and she clearly felt shit about Mimi having a go at him. He couldn't even explain to her what was going on, but he couldn't just leave her feeling bad, because then they'd both be feeling awful and it would ruin breakfast. He put his hands gently on Dora's delicate shoulders and bent his head to look into her eyes. "Dora. Dora. It's fine. Don't worry, she's just having an off day," he lied, trying for a good humoured smile that might have made him look slightly lost instead, as he struggled with telling lies. "She'll calm down soon, let's just eat," he said, waving a hand at the well stocked table and moving towards it to hint that Dora should do the same. "You can throw her a sausage or some bacon if you want." he added with a laugh, wondering if bribery might make the pup hate him a bit less. He doubted it, but he didn't mind his food being donated to a dog, there was plenty. If Mimi did end up with some bacon, though, she might have a fight on her hands from Azrael, who would undoubtedly try and steal it from her. Kit wondered if she'd ever met a cat before. Maybe he should have locked Azrael away, but then he hadn't expected a dog to be coming to breakfast today. Hindsight was a killer, but they'd get through the morning with everyone in one piece. He hoped. Kit took a seat at the table and fretted quietly to himself while he piled his plate up. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson notes: <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Kit's laugh only got louder when Ollie thwacked him on the ankle as hard as he could. It hurt, they were half vampires, a hit from one of them full force would break bones in a human, though Ollie's blow merely created a dull ache in his older brother's limb. Kit dropped to his knees and silenced his wand, the trumpeting beginning to annoy his own ears after a minute or two of it. "It's six," he corrected Ollie with a gentle dig in his brother's arm. "I'm not a monster, I wouldn't wake you up at five." Not unless Ollie was really hung over, then Kit would drag him out of bed at four in the morning and tell him it was noon just for a giggle. Kit wasn't into alcohol at all. He would drink it to be social when his friends dragged him out, but he didn't like it, it tasted awful, and he was a real lightweight, drunk after three drinks. He hadn't had a sip of alcohol since New Years Eve when he'd ended up kissing Dora Parkinson, but if that hadn't been a life lesson, he didn't know what was. It was enough to put him off drinking ever again.
Ollie tried to coax Kit into letting him have more sleep by inviting him onto the snuggly bed, but Kit resisted. He flopped down on his stomach beside Ollie, who was now hugging a pillow like he used to when he was a child. Kit watched him for a minute before tugging lightly on the pillow to try and get Ollie to open his eyes. "Come on, come and have breakfast with me. I've been up on my own for hours, I need the company." Kit was fine with solitude, but sometimes it was nice to just be able to chat to his siblings or his dad like they had done when he had lived in the family home. It was such a relief to have Ollie living with him, it made the transition from a house with five people in it, to a house with just yourself rattling around in it, much easier. Pranks aside, Kit loved his baby brother to the ends of the earth, and having him close, like down the hall close, was the best feeling. He'd be lost for a long while if Ollie ever moved out. Merlin forbid Dora would probably invite herself to move in to the newly empty room, and Kit would have to relocate to Africa just to avoid the situation. "I'll make pancakes," he tempted, nudging his brother again.

Revelations There were a lot of teeth in that dog's mouth for such a tiny thing, and Kit stared at them as the pup snarled him. Dora was apologising, but Kit shook his head and held his hands up in a sort of surrendering pose. "It's fine," he swallowed, loathing the lies he had to tell to his friends. "She's probably just feeling out of sorts in a strange place." Oh yeah, like Dora didn't take her everywhere with her, the dog probably had a passport by now and had been to more parts of the country than Kit had in his twenty three years. Well, maybe not, Dora was only a barmaid, she probably couldn't afford to get around that much unless she was apparating to places she'd already been before. Then again, she had that rich best friend, Finley, he probably got her into all sorts of fancy places, dog and all. Kit thought that must be nice for her, to have someone who could spoil her a little bit. Merlin knew she enjoyed her luxuries, but knowing that she got them sometimes was nice. She deserved that. But the point was, Mimosa was most definitely used to going to new places all of the time, and Kit was full of crap. His helpless hands pose didn't do much for him as before he knew it, Mimosa was charging across the balcony towards him, teeth on show, fur standing up on end, it would have been quite a funny sight if he wasn't about to get his leg chewed off. There was only one thing for it, really, and it wasn't very manly at all. Golden-green eyes wide, he leapt up onto the nearest chair, Mimosa yapping fiercely at the legs of it, too small to reach him. "Fuck me! Do you mind? Can I...?" He waved his wand about a bit to indicate that he wanted to use it, but didn't wait for Dora's permission. There was only one way to end this dramatic little scene, and his Auror training kicked in, making him take charge like only an Auror could, really. He levitated the snapping dog through the sliding doors and into the kitchen, holding her magically in place while he slammed the door shut, the spell disconnecting with the motion. Kit locked the glass door and grimaced at Mimosa, who pressed her little face up against the glass, all teeth and tongue, thinking she was some sort of wolf. Cute. "She'll be safe in there, I promise," he turned to Dora, feeling bad that he'd just locked her freaked out dog in his house without even asking her if it was okay. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson notes: <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Sunrise
The sunrise had been absolutely beautiful this morning. Kit had woken at four thirty and not been able to get back to sleep, so he had used the faded dusk light to cover him while he made the easy climb to the roof from the small window in the attic. There was no rooftop patio up there, it was an actual roof with tiles, one that people were not meant to be climbing on, never mind sitting on for a good view of the city, but Kit did it more often than any authorities might like to know about. Nottingham wasn't as exciting as London when it came to the skyline, but it was still lovely to see as the first rays of light kissed the treetops on the horizon and spread out across the city. He would never get tired of it, even if it did mean being awake at silly o'clock in the morning and being a bit sluggish by tea time. It was a Saturday, he didn't have work, or any other plans that he needed to be on the ball for, so it wouldn't affect his day anyway, except for putting a smile on his handsome face.
The heat began to seep through the simple t-shirt and pants that he usually slept in, and he rolled the short sleeves back a bit more, enjoying the sun. There were so many people in his world that had no idea just how special it was to him to be able to just sit in the sun. As a half vampire, it was a huge privilege to be able to do that, since full blooded vampires like his father would turn to dust within seconds of being in sunlight. It was strange, only being half, but the perks far outweighed the downsides. Kit couldn't imagine living a life of darkness and shadows like his dad did. It wasn't a life he would ever want to live, and he admired his father greatly for finding a way to be happy with his existence while his children enjoyed all of the perks of their human half. Speaking of Max Devereaux's other children, Ollie was still in bed downstairs. It was time for a rude awakening.
Climbing nimbly down from the roof, Kit swung silently in through the attic window and closed it behind him, trotting down the small staircase until he reached the second floor landing where his and Ollie's bedrooms were. He passed his own room, which was neat and tidy, not a thing out of place except for the book he'd been reading last night, still open on his bedside table, and paused outside his little brother's room. Waking Ollie up at the crack of dawn was always fun. Kit might be seen as a sensible person, a lover of rules and regulations, reliable, calm, yadda yadda yadda, but he did have a fun side, and he did so love winding his siblings up in small ways. He took his wand from the pocket of his pyjama pants and muttered a quick spell, holding his wand to his mouth like a trumpet as he opened Ollie's room door with a bang. He blew loudly on his wand, a veritable fanfare sounding throughout the once peaceful room, and no doubt piercing his brother's dreams like a knife. A grin on his sunkissed face, Kit jumped on to Ollie's bed, his wand still blaring horns at top volume. "Good morninnggg!" he bellowed gleefully. Six o'clock in the morning wasn't too early for his own private parade, was it? Nope.

Absence of Sleep
Kit's face contorted in what could only be described as denial. "I don't even nag," he said, knowing that he was perfectly capable of it when the mood struck. Especially at the office with the people he had to work with, the people who didn't work in the same efficient manner that he did, the people who had messy desks and unpredictable habits and other unsettling patterns of behaviour. Okay, he did nag. He nagged a fair amount to those people. It was all done in a caring way, though. He cared that they did their job properly, and also in the case of Dorcas, he cared about annoying her just a fraction of the amount that she annoyed him. Alvar was different, though, Kit being on his tail for things was actually because he cared about the guy not getting himself killed, or fired, or fired and then killed. That would be a crappy day.
Alvar deflected Kit's question by turning it onto Kit instead. That was fine, Kit had half expected it, but he did laugh at Alvar's suggestion of why Kit was there. "Of course, I consulted my crystal ball and saw you sitting here all alone," he laughed, stretching his legs out and taking a minute to consider whether he should tell Alvar the truth or not. He didn't want to talk about his mum, not to anyone right now, not even Ollie. His dreams were upsetting the past few nights, and he hadn't even bothered to knock on his brother's door to talk about it. Talking to Alvar wasn't really an option all things considered, and so he supposed going along with the joke was the best option. "Do you need help?" he asked, tone serious now as he rolled his chair closer to the desk and picked up the file that Alvar was agonising over. Kit hadn't seen the case before, so he would be looking at it with no prior knowledge of it, which might actually be of some help, to have a fresh set of eyes to see through. If Alvar really needed someone to give him a hand with it, then Kit was always willing to help out, even if it was more than he needed to do. Jumping in on other Auror's cases wasn't something that was usually done, but it wasn't against the rules to get an opinion from someone else in the office.

Revelations How she would fit a bit of everything in that tiny frame of hers was beyond Kit, but he was happy to hear her enthusiasm for his cooking. "You're a lot of things, but you'll never be a pig," he told her, eyebrows quirking with the effort of not making any further revelations about what other things she might be instead. He was not a cruel person, but sometimes honesty was refreshing, like telling someone that under no circumstances would he ever kiss them again, that was fine. Telling someone that they really needed to reconsider walking around half naked all of the time, that was also acceptable to Kit, but telling someone they were annoying when he spent more than an hour in their company bordered on mean. Then again, it depended who he was talking to, he supposed. If it was someone like Meadowes he'd say it without hesitation, but Dora was a friend, and she was delicate. She deserved his kinder side, though not too much, or she'd get clingy. He really didn't want a clingy Dora on his hands. He nodded when she said she was going to have a nose around the balcony, and focused on trying to get the food dished up for them. That was until he heard her talking to someone out there. There were no neighbours overlooking for her to be chatting to, and so Kit put the frying pan down with a frown and leaned to one side so that he could peek out to see what she was doing. His eyes nearly popped out of his head to see her nose to nose with a tiny dog. So that was what the growling noise was! Holy Merlin, how was he going to get around this one? Dora didn't know he was half vampire, and she also didn't know that animals hated him because of it. As though he could read his owner's mind, Azrael meowed at Kit's feet. "Not you, Az. You're stupid enough to like me. I'd go and hide in my room if I were you," Kit muttered to him, eyes still on the small dog Dora was holding. The black cat ignored him and Kit sighed. He had known that Dora had gotten herself a dog recently, but he'd never thought about what would happen if he had to meet the pup at some point. It seemed that it was time to find out. Finishing up with the food, he gave a flick of his wand and plates full of hot yumminess floated in the air, following him as Kit opened the balcony door and hovered in the doorway, awkwardly. "I take it this is Mimi?" he asked, trying for a relaxed smile, though it was a little too tight. The plates of food placed themselves in a neat arrangement on the table, and Kit stayed put, not wanting to get any closer in case he was charged at by a tiny ninja with sharp teeth. Mimi spotted him and those needle teeth were bared fully as she gave a rather vicious growl in his direction. "Hey, pup," he said, feigning confidence. Mimi snarled more in Dora's arms. "She, uh, she's cute." And ready to eat me. Probably something her owner was ready to do, too, but Kit didn't like to preempt Dora's tormenting comments. It was bad enough having her say things to make him uncomfortable, but he often found himself unwittingly thinking up things that she might say to make him squirm, and it really didn't help. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson notes: <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Starlight New Year The night had somehow turned into a blur. One drink had become five, and before Kit knew it he was definitely on the drunk scale. He had no idea where on the scale because he wasn't that familiar with his drunken self, but he was smiling, and the dancing had become kind of fun, and he no longer worried what anyone thought of him. It was great. It was surprisingly freeing, and though he had no intentions to repeat the night any time soon, he was glad that he was here for the moment, and he was glad that his brother was having a good time, though he had lost sight of Ollie a while ago. Dora had given him plenty of distraction in the form of flinging herself all over him on the dancefloor, and though he had started off just dealing with it, he had at some point began to join in and his hands had roamed a fair bit, never in any outrageous places, but he now knew every curve on her hips and back, her shoulders, and just how much - it really wasn't much at all given his strength and her tiny stature - pressure it took to spin her, dip her, and pull her in close. It was fun. It was fun, and the lights made him dizzy. By the time midnight was approaching, they had stopped for a rest, drinks in hand - how many was this now? - and his arm was draped around her, her head resting on him as they shouted out the countdown with the rest of the crowd. He hadn't even given a thought to what would happen when they reached one, but as he shouted it, everyone around them began to lock lips, and Kit blinked. Oh, yeah. That bit. He barely had time to register Dora's hand in his hair before she was kissing him, and he returned it in a bit of a daze, golden eyes pulling her pretty face into focus as she pulled away, her tongue running over his lips and making him smile. Well, if he were to have a midnight kiss, that little thing would not be it. It had been a while since he'd dated anyone, and though he didn't want to date Dora - Merlin forbid! - here she was in the moment. He bit his lip, the taste of her still there, strong to his vampiric senses, though they were blurred slightly by the alcohol. "Happy New Year," he grinned, his arms firm around her waist as he pulled her in for another kiss, one hand sliding south to grip her arse and lift her off her feet. He would really regret this in the morning. And probably every day for the rest of his life. She would never let him forget it, but for now, drunken Kit kissed her with a fire she had probably never expected from him, his thoughts miles away from the consequences. So much for having one drink and leaving. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and everyone! notes: Outfit <3 template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Revelations His joke didn't get to her, and Dora merely used it as an excuse to show off her short skirt even more. Kit glanced away, not wanting to stare at her any longer in case he gave her the impression that he was actually enjoying what he saw. She was a beautiful girl, she really was, but he'd never thought of her like that. She was far too much for him, too showy and skimpy and flashy and other words that ended in 'y' that just didn't blend well with Kit, who didn't have many 'y's in his personality aside from moody, or modest...y. Intelligenty? There had to be more than just moody, and he wasn't even really that most of the time, you only had to ask his siblings and they'd tell you he had the warmest smile around. Maybe it was just for them, though. He'd never thought about whether he treated them differently to his friends or acquaintances when it came to warmth or smiles. He probably did, but Dora at least should have known by now that he wasn't a grump. He started up the stairs ahead of Dora, his foot almost missing a step when he heard her whispering to herself, and referring to herself as Mimi. Was she drunk? Had she been drinking last night and just carried on until morning? That was possible, she was a real party girl, but Kit hoped she'd make more of an effort than to turn up to hang out with him while she was off her head. She asked about breakfast and another growl followed. Maybe Mimi was what she called her stomach and she was just starving. Kit reached the top of the stairs. "Everything," he admitted, jumping straight back into cooking as soon as he entered the kitchen. "I wasn't sure what you liked, so I did the lot, eggs, bacon, sausages," he pointed to the other bits and bobs cooking on the stove, "everything else. You don't have to eat it all. Or any of it, you can have toast or something." His eyes were slightly wider as he realised she might feel forced into having what he'd made even if she didn't want it. Kit would make her whatever she did want, it was no trouble. He'd cooked for three younger siblings so many times before that he was used to multitasking and making four different meals because they were all fussy and wanted different things. "I thought we could take advantage of the sun and sit out on the balcony," he added. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson notes: *totally wings it* X'D <3 outfit: Just chillin'. template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Absence of Sleep
Relaxing considerably now that he knew who he was sharing the office with at this time of night - morning? - Kit rubbed a hand through his hair, leaving it sticking up in ten different directions, though he hardly noticed. It was a habit he had when he was nervous, ruffling his own hair, his dad used to tell him it would fall out if he didn't leave it alone, but it was just his thing. A quirk, a comfort when he felt on edge or embarrassed. Or when he was in the presence of someone really good looking and had no idea what to say to them. There were lots of things that triggered the small act, though it probably wasn't the best idea to scruff himself up around someone he had a crush on. Luckily there weren't many who fell into that category. Alvar certainly didn't, and Kit felt comfortable in his company. Of course Alvar's family had a reputation, and Alvar himself had fought to change the way he had been raised, to be a better person. There would always be a niggling doubt there, but the man deserved a chance for a better life than what he had been living before, Kit would give him that at least.
"I can't really nag you for doing the same thing I'm guilty of, can I," Kit laughed, moving around the partition and catching the chair Alvar summoned for him to sit on. He turned it so it was facing him and sat on it backwards, resting his arms on the back rest, his long legs stretching out in front of him as he rolled himself closer to the desk and Alvar. "What's your excuse?" he asked, wondering if Alvar had any particular reason for his insomnia like Kit did, or if it was just general restlessness. Kit wasn't one to pry usually, and if Alvar fobbed him off with some lame answer, Kit would take it and move on. He wasn't sure whether he wanted to divulge his own reasons to the Alvar, either, talking about his family wasn't something Kit often did on a deeper level. Shallow conversations were fine, but when it came to his mother, that wasn't something for just anyone to hear about. He could always just claim he'd had a headache that was too severe to sleep through, or that a case was playing on his mind and he hadn't been able to resist coming into work to look it over in the quiet of the night.

Starlight New Year Whatever demonic force was leading him down a dark path tonight, Kit cursed it. He cursed it as he heard himself utter the words "maybe just one dance", and he cursed it as he allowed Dora to pull him right into the middle of the dance floor. He cursed it as bodies bumped around his, and he cursed the most when Dora turned her back on him and pressed her wiggling bum up against him. Kit swallowed. This was probably the part where he was supposed to start moving, but he couldn't. Dora was already lost to the music, and with her back to him, she couldn't see his eyes burning through the skulls of the people around them, she couldn't see the panic in the set of his jaw, and she couldn't see the sweat starting to gather on his forehead. He blew out a harsh breath and shook out his hands. He could do this. He could survive one dance. Nobody was even looking at him anyway, and anyone who did look their way would likely be distracted by Dora's glittering dress. He could do this. His head began to bop gently to the beat as his eyes still nervously took in the dancing people surrounding them. Nobody looked his way. Kit's foot began to tap. Still, nobody even spared him a glance. Knees now giving a slight bob up and down, he tried to focus on the sequins on Dora's outfit instead of his gyrating neighbours, and after a minute of incredibly tame bopping, he felt his jaw unclench, his heart rate steady, and his hands relax - when had he balled them into fists? - as he tried to fall into some kind of synchronicity with his dance partner. It didn't help that he was a whole foot taller than her, if not more. There were so many factors that made this whole experience horrendously awkward for him, but in the name of being a good friend, he sucked it up and carried on bopping behind the happy pixie that was Dora Parkinson. It was nice to see her happy. It was nice to be the reason she was happy. Still, he prayed to any and all higher beings that the next song would be a slow one. He'd cope much better with a slow dance. _______________________ tag: Euphadora Rose Parkinson and everyone! notes: Outfit <3 template by izzy [googlefont="Rock Salt"]

Absence of Sleep
Kit unscrewed the top of his large flask off, turning it upside down so that he could use it as a cup for his tea. He actually had his own cup in the staff room at work, one with a picture of a black Labrador puppy on it, but that was for the day time when the Auror office was crowded, and people were popping in and out making crappy cups of coffee and tea for themselves because they didn't fancy queuing up in the canteen for one. He didn't fancy using the crappy work teabags his colleagues were so fond of by daylight, so he had made his own flask of his favourite brand at home and took it with him. It was the middle of the week, and three in the morning, but that was no excuse not to enjoy the things you liked while you sat at your desk looking over case files because sleep wasn't your friend. Kit was having a strange week. Mother's Day had been only a week ago. A week and three days, to be exact, and it had played havoc with Kit's mind, as it usually did. He had taken pink roses to lay at her grave, and he had had dinner with Ollie and their dad to mark the occasion, but missing his mother was never something that got easier for Kit.
She had died when he was just a boy, and he had had to grow up fast to help his dad look after their family, what with Max being a vampire and unable to leave the house in the sunlight, it limited their father on what he could do to care for his children, and so Kit had had to step in, being the eldest, and figure things out. Max worked his hardest to bring in money during the night, and Kit looked after his siblings in the day while their dad slept. It wasn't fair, and it wasn't always fun despite Kit trying to make it so for the little ones that looked up to him, but it was nothing compared to how unfair it was that they all had to grow up without a mother. He managed to block it out most days, to keep the sorrow at a low volume, but mother's day always gave it a boost. He missed his mum. What he wouldn't give for one hug from her, one smile, one conversation so that she could tell him she was proud of who he had grown up to be. It would never come, and he needed it so much. He had been having nightmares all week. Beautiful dreams of time with Liliana, causing him to wake in tears. Coming in to the office to keep his mind busy had seemed like a good idea, but the silence only gave him more room to dwell on thoughts he didn't want.
He had been wandering the office, pulling files from drawers, doing bits of research for his cases tomorrow - Merlin knew how he would survive the day with no sleep - and pouring himself more tea when he heard the lift. Someone else was coming. Strange for the middle of the night. Kit sat at his desk in his little cubicle, staying hidden behind the partition as he heard footsteps approach, getting closer and closer to his location. Who the heck was it? He was tempted to peep over the top of the partition, but that was a stupid idea. What if the building had been infiltrated by Death Eaters and he was about to announce his presence to one of them and end up in a fight to the death - undoubtedly his own death - all because he had the urge to peek? Then again, what if it was just Alvar Bellerose settling himself in at his own desk beside Kit's and muttering to himself over case files in front of him? That seemed more likely, considering it was Alvar and Kit was being dramatic and paranoid. You could never be too careful, though. Standing up, he peered over the top of the partition at the dark haired guy he had gone through two years Auror training with, and cleared his throat. "If only they could answer," he said, golden eyes staring intensely at the picture of the dead man at the top of the file Alvar was looking through. Lots of pictures could talk in the wizarding world, but general photographs were not so magical, unfortunately.
